thank you, i bypassed the door micro switch and still 3 flash, im going to remove the entire back cover and attempt to bypass the interior switch, before i do that my question is could it possably be some other malfunction than what the indicator 3 flashes tell me >?

ok ill take your advice. one final concerne, the front micro switch i beleve that is the source of this disaster is where i un pluged the connector from the tiny board the switch rests on and the end from that comes from the set i went 1.5 inch up and cut and then connected the two ends " i did this as a by pass" is this a valid procedure or is there another or better way??

The switches (there are two of them) can be bypassed but it isn't a fun job. There are 3 connections on the switch boards and if you connect all 3 together, that should bypass the switch. There is one switch on the door and another located on the lamp socket board. You can bypass on the door but there is no way I can describe how complicated it is to get to the one on the lamp socket. So, try jumping the one on the door and see if helps. REMEMBER THAT THE LAMP IN THIS SET CAN CAUSE BURNS, VISION DAMAGE AND OTHER PROBLEMS SO AFTER YOU HAVE JUMPED THE SWITCH, PUT THE DOOR BACK ON AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORD UNPLUGGED WHEN YOU WORK ON THE TV.

    Bioguard,
To get to the lamp safety switch is a major teardown involving disassembling thel amp chamber and removing the lamp socket. I REALLY don't recommend you try this as it is very easy to damage the set when making this repair. The entire set chassis has to be removed so you can get access to what you're looking for and should only be attempted by someone who has training on the set. Believe me, if I could walk you through this safely I would, but it's not something that I can describe easily, I had to be shown and even then when i did it by myself the first time it took me 3 hours to get everything back together and working.

Other than a connector for the safety switches being unplugged, I have never seen anything else cause a 3 flash shutdown except bad or broken switches

My advice would have been to bypass the connections on the switch board itself rather than cutting any wires. Your Sony tech, whoever you get might want to replace that harness you cut due to the heat produced in the set and the fear that it might cause you problems in the future. Those switches are supplied on the circuit board as an assembly.

My kdf-e42a10 tv won't come on flashes green 7 times then flashes red 3 times.

The 3 blinks is lamp door not closed, what it really means is the door may be warped from the heat of the lamp===the door has a plastic peg on the back that when the door is in place engages a lever just behind the door. If the door is even a little bowed=three blinks.

Engage the lever with something not metal and see if set comes on, if it does replace the door.

3 blinks is indicating the lamp has burned out. Aftermarket lamps tend to fail quickly. Only use oem replacement lamps for your sony. You can get replacement lamps from www.tvrepairworld.com

I replaced the projection lamp and the light flashed red 3 times after researching i found it was the projection door now the light just flashes red non stop

Hi,

There are usually several micro switches (little metal levers) inside the projection tv - most commonly by the lamp assembly and behind the lamp door.

It's possible either:

a) the lamp is not fully seated into position - ensure the lamp assembly is locked into position and that all screws have been secured, which will correctly close the micro switch.

b) the lamp door is slightly misaligned - ensure the door is aligned properly (do not force it) and all screws MUST be secured into place, which will correctly close the micro switch.

If the above items are in their correct positions, then you may need to test the 'continuity' of the switches (open & closed) using a multimeter, to determine whether you many have a faulty micro switch.

Hope this helps..

I was given this model tv. The green and red lights on the front are flashing. Says to replace bulb and close lamp cover correctly. I am missing the lamp cover. Is that going to be a problem?

U mean the Lamp door cover?Yes?Tv might work, might not.Don't know never tries to turn the tv on before without a Lamp door cover close before. There is a blue safety switch though must be press down when the Lamp door cover is close.Test it out.Why don't u just take a piece of tape and tape that blue safety switch down tightly, than turn on the tv.If the tv message that said close lamp cover correctly disappear.Than yes the tv will work, without the lamp cover closed. Now u just needed to do a replacement of the tv projection lamp only that all.

I push the power button standby light turns red & blinks 3 times 7 THEN TURNS OFF

If the standby light is flashing 3 times. (your post says 3 times 7) I was unclear... A error code of 3 blinks inidicate that the door covering the lamp is not secure oer the lamp is not secure. Make sure the lamp door is seculy screwed down. ussally the door push a little switch closed. If this doesnt work the next thing to try is to remove the bulb carefully(dont touch the lens) and replace it making sure the bulb is in place securely. let me know if i can help any further

Sony KDSR50XBR1 50 black screen, no faults! Lamp working, fans OK Sony KDSR50XBR1 50" HDTV: The light engine was working fine before the fan quit starting on it's own. After disassembly, cleaning and lubrication of the fan, I have no errors but the input display or menu options will not post on the screen. The lamp is on but seems to either be projecting a solid black picture, or not be at full brightness and there are no faults. I have a solid greed LED on top, but can get no picture. Sound is fine. What should the lamp voltage be at operating mode? I have tried reseating connectors and pushing on the wires to make sure the connectors seat. This is baffelling because the lamp fired fine for 1 second before the stuck fan issue was corrected and I have no faults now after lubricating the fan. I'm going to check connectors again today as a triple check; as I did remove the power supply. The TV has been reset per instructions in the book. Any advice would be much appreciated but I cannot believe it's the OB as it worked fine before the fan quit and it's about 14 months old. I'm thinking something may not be assembeled correctly, but everthing seems to be pretty idiot proof for re-assembly. Also the menu or input banners will not post. I have 2 new lamps, so it's not that.It seems to be stuck in somne black screen mode. The large fan does start by itself now after cleaning and lubrication, therefore no fault blinks. Please help!!!
