Question about Dryers

Kenmore 90 Plus Series Model: 68942890

I used the dryer lastnight and I went to get the clothes out and it was still sitting on the 10 minute mark. I try to turn it on and it only goes when I'm holding in the button! It won't go if I let it go! Sears Kenmore 90 plus series Evenheat electric. # 68942891 Our dryer will sometimes run on the desired time and temp setting. Sometimes it stops after only 5 minutes. Sometimes will not start at all. Naturally, holding the start button down will make it run, this is not a motor problem, but there will be no heat when you do that. Yesterday, it dried two loads well. Today it won't start. Tonight, it might run just fine for a couple of loads. What suggestions have produced a repair on this model.? I'm not about to give Sears the satisfaction of milking me for service calls. They obviously know this is bad product and do not care.

bald one, more than likley your even heat board has failed. I've seen this a lot on this model. It's located under the consol right next to the timer. Easy fix. part number 3402605. Catriver

Where to find fuses. My dryer is not heating up.

Does your dryer have power? If yes, then check (1) the flow of air outside the house from your dryer tube and (2) your circuit breaker panel for each circuit in the house (I've not seen fuses/breakers built into dryers -- though that could change). Then check (3) your heating element, (4) thermostat, (5) high-temp thermal cutoff switch, and (6) for debris in the air flow path to / from from the centrifugal fan.

Kenmore dryer 90 series

Since no model number was given, check to see if you have a setting commonly noted as "wrinkle guard", "wrinkle shield", "press care" or something to that affect. Those settings will run the dryer for as much as 90 min after a completed drying cycle to prevent wrinkles in clothing, allowing you time to remove the cloths after a dry cycle if you are busy. Sounds like a prompt of some type...waiting for an input like to 'open the door' at end of cycle. Not sure myself but do believe the answere is in the customer service manual you received with the new machine. If you do not have one, go on line to get one.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

the first thing to try is turning the heater upto full heat(a/c off)if the temp guage goes down THEN CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT...(hot oil,if too hot, is thinner than the normal sae rating so the oil pressure will be lower.otherwise no real problem.

The gas turned off when the temperature is detectd by a thermal sensor. The timer is not working therefore the motor keeps running until you turned it off. The timer need to be replaced.

My dryer overheats every ten minutes or so and shuts off. Now has burning smell and big burn mark on back. Is not lint!

actually i've had this exact problem.
the burn mark is from clothes sitting on that metal piece as soon as the dryer shuts off and that is still hot. then once it burns the clothes, fabric is pulled through that metal opening and falls on the other side which builds up on the bottom of the dryer. you only need take off the bottom of the dryer and vacuum it out or remove it by hand. taking it apart is difficult and can be dangerous with all the wiring inside, so try not to take off any wires, otherwise when you plug it back in it could ground to the outside of the dryer and blow the motor.

Turns off after a few minutes

sounds like your motor is overheating or going bad. sometimes lint built up around the motor can cause it to overheat. or the motor is dying.
