Question about Nintendo 64 Console

1 Answer

Something inside n64 game cartridge

I just bought a game for the nintendo 64 off ebay. i noticed that you can hear and feel something loose inside the cartridge, and that something is jiggling around in there. also, my game is freezing randomly.

so i have two questions:

1) what could be the loose piece inside the cartridge that is making that jiggling noise possibly be?

and

2) does that loose piece mean its automatically a lost cause and a broken game? lets say its my n64 console thats causing the freezing instead of the game; would the game still be playable with the loose piece inside?

thanks

There could be many things making that noise, my fellow N64 Gamer :)
It could be a few loose pieces of plastic that have broken off over the years, or it could be the chipset itself, which would be the reason why it's not working. By a special screwdriver off the internet (not more that 10 bucks) and open the cart to see what's making the noise.

As for the freezing up, if the chipset's moving around in there, it cold be freezing, if the chipset isn't moving, you could try cleaning the contacts on the bottom with a solution of alcohol and water.

My nintendo 64 is lagging!

The N64 was originally made for the old analog CRT TV, if you are connecting it to a newer type digital TV this could be why you experience lagging as I have those games and do not remember any lag in any of them not that I have played them in the last 2 years. The worst case scenario is that the seller was getting rid of it due to a bad Video chip inside the N64 without stating that there was a problem with it so they could sell it. This is why I never use eBay you just never know what you are getting. I am not sure if Nintendo still support this console but it maybe worth a try to contact them directly and see if they are able to help you figure out what it is.

Your English is very good I understood everything with no problems my friend.

Nintendo 64 Game Cartridges Loose

It could be loose plastic and metal pieces inside of the gamepack so you could just buy a new gamepack then or open up the game pack to see where the problem is comming from.logo.png38mmbit_thumbnail.jpg&maxx=150&maxy=150It might be the chips inside of the gamepack its self then that are loose.

Hi we just bought a nintendo 64 and plugged everything the red light comes on but when we insert the game it flickers then the screen turns dark green and nothing. We have plugged and replugged, cleaned...

I say your N64 is obsolete at this point. May I suggest playing N64 games on your PC. A rom is a game that is 'ripped' from a game cartridge or cd of a game console (usually a console generation earlier than the second latest.) An emulator is what you run the rom in. The emulator is what allows you to use your mouse, keyboard, etc. to play the game.
http://coolrom.com/ is a great source for roms. You can get roms for the N64, GBA, GBA, GB, GameCube, Nintendo DS and even some sega games! You search for your game, find it in the list of search results and download the game.

How do you erase memory from the memory pak

  • Plug an N64 controller into the "Player 1" port on the Nintendo 64.
  • 2 Place the N64 Controller Pack into the memory card slot on the Nintendo 64 controller.
  • 3 Insert a Nintendo 64 game into the cartridge slot on the N64.
  • 4 Hold down "Start" on the N64 controller.
  • 5 Turn the Nintendo 64 on via the "Power" switch on the device. After the console loads, the Controller Pack menu will appear on the screen.
  • 6 Release the "Start" button on the N64 controller.
  • 7 Browse through the saves listed, using the N64 controller's directional pad.
  • 8 Highlight the game you want to erase.
  • 9 Select the "Delete" option. The pages that were occupied by the game save will be erased from the Controller Pack.
  • 10 Repeat Steps 7 though 9 until you're finished erasing pages on the Controller Pak. Restart the N64 if you wish to play the game that was inserted into the device, or turn the Nintendo 64 off if you are done using the console.

Sounds like your plugs/wires are having a problem, or something on the inside of the console. Try: Unplugging and replugging wires. Blowing on the inside of the cartridge slot, the cartridge, try to clean the cartridge slot with rubbing alcohol, and check for bent connectors. This is an infamous problem with N64's

    N64 freezes while playing

The Nintendo 64 is notorious for overheating problems.  This is a very common problem.  With my N64, I play it while a fan is blowing on it.  This usually prevents the problem.  Try this method.  It should work.
    Hope this helps!!
