Whirlpool sidexside m-gd25dq does not cool properly

seperate temp switch for refrigerator and freezer. moving the switch setting on refrig switch causes the motor to shut off. when i try to turn it back on it works for a 1-2 minutes and shuts off (does not cycle properly afterwards). move the setting to the extreme cold temp and it runs constantly and freezes food in fridge. when the motor shuts off and fails to cycle, food in freezer melts. will not cycle properly in any setting other than on extreme cold and refrig food gets warm, but will generally keep fridge temp in high 40's low 50's even when not cycling.
