Question about SimpleTech Signature Mini 160GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Dark Blue Blueberry

1 Answer

Not being recognized now

I have the 160 model and it worked fine on my iMac yesterday but today when I tried to get it to connect, it doesn't. The blue light comes on briefly and then goes out leaving just the red showing. Any help you can give me will be appreciated...

For three months I've been using the HD, but suddenly it wasn't recognized by the computer. I tried connecting in different ports and different computers, but it's the same, even in Win XP or Vista.

I've had this happen to me twice. The first time, it just randomly started working. This time it just doesn't work. The usb port is fine, the drive seems to work, because like the previous person, the blue light came on for a second then stopped. It was not detected.

It wasn't a malfunction of the simple tech unit, the problem was with the computer itself. I finally re booted the computer and the problem resolved itself. Thank you for being there and I learned a bit out of the experience (I am new to mac's)

I have a 250 GB SeaGate external hard drive. It has been working fine until yesterday when I plugged it into my laptop. It made a few clicking noises as it tried to start up, but the computer never...

The clicking is due to insuffient power to the drive. Try a different usb port. If the drive came with a power supply then use that too.. Sometimes the repetative clicking is also a sign of a failing drive.
If you get it to start up then save everything on it at that time as it may never run again.

Good luck

My iMac doesn't recognize my simpletech 160gb, but my PC does. Trying to get the hard-drive to work on the iMac.

Most likely it's formatted in NTFS which the Mac supports only with an addon, that you don't have.
The easiest way to fix that is to format the Simpletech in FAT32.

I have a Que M3 hard drive 80GB,which is not recognized on Imac.

Few thoughts

1. Go to System Profiler (see in Applications then Utilities) and check whether (dependent upon whether it is USB or Firewire) the drive is showing up
2. Have you checked whether the cable is okay, have you got a spare cable.
3. Change the usb port on the imac that you are using (could be damaged)

Good luck

Computer doesn' t recognize iomega eGo portable

a windows update may have run and killed the drivers...try rolling the system back to before the problem started, then if updates run again..and set them to download but dont install..install them yourself..run updates and see if the problem re-appears.

check the drive on any other system.

may be last time you were using the drive and system carsh or improper shutdown this can cause the drive damage.

Also may be a virus format the disk and try it.

A clicking noise from a harddrive is defenenly NOT a good thing. It usually means that the harddrive is going bad.
