We cannot turn on/turn off or adjust the volume using our remote
All of the other functions seem to work using the remote (changing channels, switching functions, etc), and just to be certain of where the problem originated, we had the cable company give us replacement remote.

I can't speak with knowledge about the Crosley brand, but almost all regular TV brands have buttons on the side for Function or Menu On/Off, Volume +/-, and Channel +/-. The volume and channel buttons are used to navigate the menus and to adjust the settings.
If you can't work this out by experimenting with the buttons, or reading the user manual, then perhaps you should just go out and buy a universal remote that works the Crosley TV brand.
U can't do much on a universal tv remote.Only the basic mostly, like power on/off,channels up/down and volume up/down that about it.If u wanted more functions and controls and adjustments inside of the tv Menu for options like changing and adding functions.U must have the tv original remote to be able to do it.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv orignal remote.
you should be able to set up any universal remote to your TV.
as you did not note what television can can't tell you what remote will work best or have more available functions on the remote, but you should be able to get any universal remote to turn on and off the tv, change the channel with the up and down buttons and adjust the volume.
try each code in the universal remotes manual to see which one works best. NOTE: the first code you get to work may not work as well as the next, so if some function does not work you are looking for, try the next code. If you get a universal remote with code search function that is even better as you can using the remote to figure out the best code match.
good luck, and if you have probablems getting your remote to work, post a comment what tv you have and what remote so we can better resolve your issue.
Is it the original remote that came with the TV? If you're using a universal remote or one that came with your audio receiver or DVD player or whatever then you may have accidentally switched modes to audio or something. Be sure the TV mode is selected.
I Believe You Can Go To Channel 2 And Right Below Those Channels Are The 3 Video Channels Turn On Your Dvd Player And Go Through Them. If That Doesn't Work Try Looking At The Buttons On Your Tv For A Tv Video. Make Sure You Dont Have A Tv Video Button On Your Remote If You Do Then Just Click It Till You Find The Appropriate Video Channel.
Check if the remote is in TV position, that is, because most of the remote controllers have the feature that you can program them for use with another devices. Make shure that one button that says "TV" in pressed and released once before you try to change any function on the TV.
