Question about Ryobi 30 Cubic Centimeter Curved Shaft Gas Trimmer

My weed eater will start but when I push on throttle it dies

I have a Ryobi weedeater brand new and it starts hard but will start however when I push on the throttle it starts to die. I have carefully mixed oil with fuel and the problem remains. The only way I can get it to run is to use push the start/run lever which makes it accelerate and run a little bit better.

My Ryobi trimmer worked ok for almost a year. It was always hard to start and had to warm up a long time before it would take any throttle without dying. Now it will not take any throttle and I have to put it in the "start" position and leave it there so it will run at all. Since it is an automatic choke/start position, I just have to use it in start and not touch the throttle. Very frustrating sine this was not a cheap trimmer in the first place.

Starts fine but when I press the gas it starts to die. Changed spark plug, gas mixture, and air filter. Still the same.

Well take the spark plug out take some WD40 and give it a shot inside the unit, remember to keep the unit level when hitting the throttle and allowing it to warm up for a few minutes before use also make sure where your choke lever is. also when starting I start it on the ground like most manuals state and leave it idle on the ground for a minute before picking it up and then when I pick it up I make sure that the gas tank is tilted towards the ground so there is no room for air to get into the filter causing and disturbance while the unit is warming up.

SOURCE: do you use mixed gas for a ryobi weed eater??

Unless it has a tag or decal on it saying it is a 4 cycle then it uses mixed gas/oil at about a 50:1 ratio. Straight gasoline will freeze the piston in the cylinder in mere minutes.

Poulan pro weedeater will start fine run untill you pick it up then dies

poulan has a bad habit of the fuel breaking inside the tank if it breaks before the fuel filter that makes the fuel line shorter

I have a 31 cc ryobi weed eater start for about

I think a new carburetor kit and a good carburetor tune up is in order my friend. Sounds like it's starving for gas. If it bogs down after warm up when you throttle it, then yes it needs a carb tuning. The L screw is the low side screw and should be turned in lightly until it seats then back it out one and quarter turns (1 1/4). The H screw is your high speed screw. Also, turn it in lightly until it seats, then back it out approximately a 3/4 turn. With these settings the unit should start and may even stay running. Again, if it bogs when throttled, while running turn the L screw out a little more maybe only 1/16th of a turn and then try it again. If it does rev then you'll have to adjust the H screw in about a 1/16th of a turn. But make sure you only do this after the engine has warmed up.

Hope this works, good luck

Have a Ryobi CS30 Weedeater, will not start, it is about a year old, did not see a spark, just bought new plug.

If you still don't have a spark with the new plug, then you may have a kill switch wire grounding the motor, keeping it from starting. If it's not that, then you have a bad ignition module (coil).

Weedeater won't take fuel

You need to remove the carb., disassemble and spay with carb. cleaner. Use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth), toclean the small portals in carb. Check the small screen. It could have dirt clogged in it. Reasseble and start. If it still doesn't run properly, you will need to buy a carb. kit and replace the screen, needle valve, gasket(s), & diaphragm.
