Question about Canon Powershot PRO 1 Digital Camera

Open Question

Power zoom stuck

For some months the power zoom om the Pro1 worked perfectly. Today, when I switch the camera on, the lens zooms out to telephoto, but the circular control cannot bring it back to wide angle. when I switch off, however, it politely returns to its proper position. What can I do?

SOURCE: zoom lens stuck

Hummmmmm.......I guess it all depends on how hard the drop was. At this point, you have nothing to lose by tinkering around with it.....but my guess would be that it's taken it's last picture. You might try locating a camera repair shop, or even an independent jeweler. They might could at least take a look at it and give you a second opinion. Hope this helps, and sorry about the bad luck!!!!

Your site gave no clue that it was a pay-for-service store, and I think this tactic sucks.

How do I fix the zoom control on my Canon SX40 HS digital camera after dropping it in the water a couple of months ago?

You'll need a repair I'd think that something has shorted out when immersed in the water. You need to consider the cost of repair against a replacement. A secondhand version of your camera will sell for around $100 New about $275.

Have a Panasonic FZ50. Puchased a Tokina 3x Telephoto today. Screwed the Telephoto on with the correct adapter ring.Changed the Menu setting to Tele. Go to take a Photo and i can only get the conversion...

Most add on lenses are designed to be used at a certain focal length, a zoom should be used (is most effective) when you are completely zoomed out, (really why would you add a zoom lens then not zoom all the way) a wide angle lens should be used with the zoom all the way in (cause your getting the widest angles). As far as quality, you really shouldn't have an issue except you may get black edges depending on how big the end of your lens is. Good luck

Purchase Zoom Lenses

Canon currently makes super Telephoto lenses from 300mm to 800mm and a number of zoom Telephoto lenses from 28-300 to 100-400. You can also special order a 1200mm lens from Canon at a cost of $99k! (There are only about 20 such lenses made so far.)

You can also get a 1.4 or 2x teleconverter to further increase the power of a telephoto lens. However, the cameras are unable to auto-focus when the minimum f-stop exceeds f/8, which can happen when you use one (or both) of the teleconverters on these longer lenses, so you have to manually focus the lens.

You can also get telephoto lenses from other manufacturers such as Tamron and Sigma that are built to work with Canon cameras. However, the Canon lenses are generally regarded as the best quality.

Optical zoom

Hey needacamera,
The range of an optical zoom lens refers to how wide angle to telephoto the lens covers. An example of a 6x optical zoom would be an 18mm-108mm lens, which covers wide angle to telephoto. An example of a 3x zoom lens would be an 18mm-54mm lens, which would provide a capability of capturing images from wide angle to normal views. To calculate the x factor of an optical zoom you would divide the largest number by the smallest number on your zoom. I hope this helps!

Camera really messed up!

Have you tried taking out the batteries and leaving it alone for a bit, then loading new batteries? I would try this first before anything. Good Luck.

Panasonic lumix dmc-fx01 won't focus

See the post for the same camera: "Buttons stopped working": there is a small 2 position switch connected to the zoom button. In my camera the zoom switch was stuck in one of the extreme positions. You have to put it back in the middle an re-assemble.

Telephoto lens for digital camera

It will not work because it is the wrong thread size. Here is info on the Olympus TCON-17 lens for the 5050: TCON-17 (1.7X) Telephoto Conversion Lens Extend the capabilities of your digital camera with the TCON-17 Telephoto Converter lens. This telephoto lens will increase the magnification of your subject by 1.7x when your camera lens is set to the telephoto position. This will help you bring in the subject when you can't get closer, for example, shooting sports or concerts. Please see below for additional items required to attach this lens to your camera. The following models require the CLA-1 and 43-55mm Step-Up Ring: C-2000/2020/2040/3000/3020/3030/3040/4000/4040/5050 Zoom ....... The video lens is too small (diameter). If you found one with a 43mm thread and put it on the 5050, you would experience severe vignetting (clipping of the corners of the photo).
