Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV27 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

3 Answers

No image Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, my camera insists that the cap lens is still on while I'm trying to view. It's not! The warning disappears eventually, but there is no image through the viewfinder or the lcd screen. Other wise all the right noises and motions are being made, - there's planty of power. I can't see a thing, though there is a hint of some filtering light. HELP!!! Karen

I am having the same problem, with not only mine but my parents. Both are GR-D90 models.

I also have the same problem with the same model camera. I have not used it in months and went to break it out and black screen, just the lens cap is still on. This happens in camera mode. I also have the problem with the lcd screen and the view finder. Now I do not have an error message or any error codes. And I can watch movies off my tape, but thats about it. I tried reseting the camera like sony's website told me might fix the problem. If anyone really has a fix to this, I would love to hear it.

taping with the pen helped. and image is back.

Tapping (more like banging) with a plastic marker around the edges of the lens housing worked for me.

Believe it or not, I just solved this problem yesterday. Take something hard, I used a normal pen. And just tap around the lens. Not right on the glass, but like around the dial. Might have to tap a little hard, but dont break it of course. I did this with the camera on so that I could see the screen pop back on. When I did it, the video came right on like I had taken the lens cap off. Hopfully this helps some people!

I haven’t used my Sony DCR-TRV27 for a number of years because it was broken. Even the repair shop couldn’t fix it. I ended up getting a new camera, but none of them now have an external mic input which I needed for work. I saw your article and thought, what do I have to loose, so I did what you suggested. After two or three years sitting at the bottom of my closet, it is now working better than ever! Thanks!!!

I took out the 3 screws which hold the front lens on, then played with the wires and tapped on things...it is now working! One screw on top, one on bottom and one under the jack port cover.

Images are blurred

Blurred images can have different reasons. Greasy lens, camera shake or focus error.
You can clean a greasy lens with a lens-cleaner solution and lens-paper.
Camera shake will (most likely) only occur on images taken without the flash. Most likely there will be a warning on the display if risk of shake. it's a hand with an "!". Focus error will usually also give a warning in the display.

Blank Screen when trying to record

Hi, the problem U have is the imager. reason: it is the way Sony made the imager... the gold lead wires would pop off the chip without warning. So go to JVC's site. they will fix it for free.

NEF Image will not open - Macintosh

RAW NEF images from Nikon cameras are proprietary formatted raw data directly from the cameras's sensor. If the images are improperly transferred to the computer they will not be able to be opened and will give an "Unsupported File Format" warning. Macintosh OS X has an "Image Capture" application (found in: Hard Drive/Applications/)that can be used to transfer images. If "Image Capture" is used NEF files will be corrupted and will not be able to be read. Only Nikon View, or manually dragging images from the mounted card, should be used to transfer NEF's. To disable "Image Capture": Double-click to open the hard drive and then the "Applications" folder Double-click "Image Capture" From the "Image Capture" menu choose "Preferences..." In the "When a camera is connected" pop-up choose "No Application" Close the Preferences window and Quit Image Capture After disabling Image Capture, it will not launch when the camera is connected and you can use Nikon View to properly transfer NEF images.
