Yes they can. in fact with this type of scope it is a routine adjustment. the adjustment you asking about is called collumation. it is the allignment of the optical components. there is a tool for doing this it uses a laser mounted in the eyepiece holder. the adjustment is a combination of screw adjustments on the primary and secondary mirrors. if this all sounds complicated its not. without the tool. if you remove the eyepiece and look in the tube if all the images are concentric your set, if not make some adjustments and recheck.

Meade ETX-90EC . i cant see through the telescope at all and the focus doesn't work at all. their are sounds if pieces "clanking" inside when it is adjusted into view

The flip mirror has fallen off inside the scope. This must be returned to Meade for repair. Here is their customer service phone number:

WHEN VIEWING, I CAN CLEARLY SEE THE SPIDER VANES FROM THE SECONDARY MIRROR IN MY IMAGES

You are NOT in focus. Turn the focus knob-- use the eyepiece with the largest number written on it until you learn how to focus. You can practice during the day time on a distant objects.

The autostar on my ds-2114 ats has stopped working. new battiers were installed & power light works but no reads outs on hand controller.

Could just be a bad cable. See if you can find a new one or buy a new one from Meade.

You can also try reversing the cable. (depends on the Meade telescope). If a new cable does not fix it, then you will have to buy a new controller. Never plug or unplug the hand controller while the scope is turned ON.

On the back of the optical tube where the mirror is, there is a peice of what seems to be a felt material. It has dislodged itself from the center and I was wondering if I can put it back in place without...

The felt is used as a cushion to prevent marring of the mirror and to give protection during temperature changes (the mirror cell and glass expand at differing rates) You may need to re-collimate the mirror after that.

Inherited brand new meade 114 DS telescope, put it together, but how the heck do you take off the dust cover of the main tube...I simply cannot figure it out! the customer care center not open yet, any...

It just pulls out!

I wonder if you are trying to remove the wrong end?
The end that opens to the sky is the one next to the eyepiece holder. If you're trying the other end which has lots of screws for adjusting the mirror, I hope you've not upset the delicate alignment!

Daylight / night focusing problem meade

First read the manual-- cover to cover:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/Reflectors/DS2000%20manual.pdf

Then during the daytime-- put the lowest magnification eyepiece you have into the telescope(it's the one with the largest number written on it)-- and practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away.

You have a GOTO scope but you must follow the alignment procedure in the manual for the scope -- or it will NOT find anything. The moon should be your first target at night--

Also suggest that you contact a local Astronomy club and attend their star parties-- they will be happy to help you learn how to use the telescope.
