Cd player opens when turned on and will not... (by 3 users)

Our JVC FS - G5 player is turning on and the radio works - but when it turns on it automatically opens to cd1 and says it is reading... it will not switch to another cd, play the cd or close the cd 1 tray.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE: CD PLAYER OPENS WHEN TURNED ON AND WILL NOT FUCTION SAYS WILL SOMETIMES FLASH
ERROR 162 THEN GO BACK TO CD READ AND DO NOTHING.
DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. HAVE PULLED PLUG AND RESTARTED TO RESET BUT DOESN'T WORK. HELP!

ApprenticeJVC recommends leaving the unit unplugged for 30 minutes to reseet the system - I'm trying that now, and will keep you posted!

Leaving the system off for 30 minutes did nothing to fix the problem.

I have brought my system to a JVC service center in January. They kept it for 2 months, trying to find the problem.... Finally, they told me that they would need to replace the whole CD player section (drawers + reader assembly). The cost of this repair would be more than the cost of a new system !!! I now have a large, expensive RADIO TUNER in my bedroom, without CD player :-(. I hope someone will find a solution. This is the last JVC system I purchase, EVER.
