Question about Gainward GeForce2 MX400 (64 MB) AGP Graphic Card

1 Answer

Hello, Someone just game me their old pc, saying that the only thing wrong is the graphic card. The card installed is a Gainward GF2 MX-400 32MB GS (GK06428N031). The monitor is connected to CRT1. When I power on, i just get vertical lines. I can hear the pc booting up, but cannot make out anything on the screen, not even at the CMOS stage. Is it possible to set the card to read from the CRT2 port? Perhaps you have seen this before and there is a quick fix? We cannot purchase new graphic cards for this motherboard and I would like to give the pc to my son for Christmas. Thank you Serena South Africa

Hi, Thanks for trying to sort out my problem. The GF2MX-400 card is on an A-Open AX34 motherboard with a VIA VT82C686A chip on it.

The graphics card is an AGP. It was working fine, but no longer. I see there are 2 video out ports on the card. Is it possible to set the card to use crt2 as the default screen output - ie can I plus the screen into the other port?

Well if you could open the pc and post me the model that reads on the motherboard to figure this one out, but if the card is build into the motherboard then only solution is to disable / turn off the video card and attach another card to the pc.

but if you can post me the brand / model that reads in the motherboard, its most likely on white text

Hello, Someone just game me - 3eb2423.gif
if you look at this picture, the red circles, see the white text on the board, those details will be helpful..

Thank you

Hey there, you are having trouble because of the simple fact that, no matter what your GPU is 256MB VRAM will NOT play full HD(doesn't matter if it says it's supported).
For 720p 512mb is okay but if you want the full 1080p HD experience go with a 1GB + Card
If you want a recommendation go with the GTX 455 1GB.

Have fun :)

Have a P5VD2-MX SE motherboard. Have tried to install NVidia GEForce 8400 GS but can't get it to work. Disabled on board graphics first but can't get any output.

it should working when you disable onboard graphic card on bios.
if not maybe some thing wrong when you attach that graphic card on VGA slot.
