If you didn't setup a password for the administrator account you can probably access that in safe mode.
To enter in safe mode press F8 key before the computer reaches the boot up screen.

Yes, there is a way to access your locked computer without re-installing OS. Try using this password recovery software tool as it helps to reset your lost Windows Administrator login password easily. Fully compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP etc operation system, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit. Should help you get rid of your problem. Regards.
Most XP machines have a built in administrator account that normally does not have a password.
You can try pressing F8 before Windows starts up to go into the XP bootup menu.
Choose Safe mode
Once into safe mode you should either see an 'Administrator' account listed, or just type in Administrator and do not type a password. If that works, go to Start-->Control Panel-->User Accounts. From there you can create a new user account for you to use with administrative privileges.
If that doesn't work, try downloading a password reset utility, such as the one at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
If this is Windows XP. Go into safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeatedly as the computer starts up. You will be given a choice on which "mode" you'd like to start Window in. Choose Safe mode. Then click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" . You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrator's account and will be able to reset the password. Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password
turn off computer...press f8 immediatelyas u turn on....in the advanced startup options menu...select ''safe mode''........log in using ''ADMINISTRATOR'' account...then click 'yes'........clickSTART->SETTINGS->CONTROL PANEL->USER ACCOUNTS->change an account.......then u can change or delete the corresponding account for which u dont have password
Yes, when you switch the laptop on hold down the F8 key until you see a black screen with a list of white text, one of the options will be "Safe Mode", use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode (just safe mode, not safe mode with anything) and press return. The computer will start to the welcome screen and you will see a user-name you don't normally see called "Administrator". Click on Administrator and you will find it is not password protected (in spite of the fact that the Administrator account has more access to the system than any other account!) when the administrator profile loads it will ask you if you want to continue in safe mode and you do. click start, click control panel and click on users and groups now click on your son's user account and click remove password. now click back, click on the Administrator account and click change password, the old password should be left blank and you're new Administrator password should be something at least 7 letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&*) long that you can remember.
Now just restart and let it start up normally, once loaded advise your son to set a password he can remember or at least write down somewhere safe.
