Internal laptop CD/DVD combo drive problem

Heya, I have laptop, using Windows XP home and this problem started to appear more recently : When in windows and I put in the drive original DVD movie disc or blank CD for burning, the PC just froze, the drive disappears and even with reboots I cant get the drive back. Curently i am without this drive and even multiple reboots or resets of the system didnt help. I checked the drives internalt what I could acces (Because the screws in laptop are impossible to unscrew.. damn company) and nothing seemed wrong, no cables loose.

- Problem solved (temporarily) :Leave laptop without a connecter power supply for a while, cool it down (really.. put it to cold room or outside or even refrigator if humidity is low tho that is extreme case).
I found this solution randomly.. when I took my laptop on travel through country by bus it was left outside on a cold wind for a while without power supply so my conclusion comes above.

1. uninstall dvd/cd using device manager
reboot and winxp will reinstall driver
2. go to my computer / dvd drive / right click / properties / hardware - roll back or update & properties - enable digital cd audio / recording - enable cd recording
3. do system restore
start / all programs / accessories / system tools / system restore
4. do full system recovery - us windows xp OS
