I took my machine apart to clean it out and figure out what was wrong with it. I did figure out what was wrong and fixed it, but as I was taking the machine apart a piece came off and I can't figure out where it came from. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram or schematics so I can figure this out? Thanks.

Dear jbanistr,
My wife and I just had this same problem (or at least getting the cover off) and have a possible solution. Safety first, unplug your machine from the wall. Next remove all the screws, three by handle, three on the bottom, one on the rear of the sleeve arm, one on the light bulb cover and one inside the lightbulb cover that goes sideways into the frame. I believe that's all of them but look for any that hold plastic-to-plastic or plastic-to-metal. Take note not to change the stich settings or else you'll have to find and set the number wheel and the adjuster to match, not fun. The way we did it was starting from the top, pry the case apart slightly and with a flat screwdriver gently lift the case over the three adjusting wheels so they clear. We then, with difficulty, pried the case the rest of the way open, with a really loud pop! A better way might have been to start pring from the bottom, but it worked. Reassembly was just the reverse, just fit the top first and put all those screws back in.
Hope this helps.

The needle holder has a screw right above the screw that holds the needle in place. It really doesn't look like a screw because it does not appear to have a slot for a screwdriver. However, with a small flat head screw driver you can tighten it up. There is also a curverd wire that must be inserted into a slot at the bottom of the holder. The screw tightens against the wire that tightens against the post. (It's a curved wire that curves around the front part).

Turn the pattern selector to the pattern you want, set the width and length dials to your liking.
Your machine does not do embroidery.

Have you tried contacting a Brother sewing machine dealer to see if they will order the part?

Keep trying.
If you still cannot get it back on, call a local sewing machine dealer to see if someone can look at it without having to leave the machine.
