1. Before beginning the installation process, ensure all cables and leads are properly fitted to their appropriate ports within the modem/router/console.
2. You will need to complete a standard configuration test without manually entering any details. This can be done by going to 'Settings' on the xmb then scroll down to 'Network Settings', then select 'internet connection settings'. If unsure of any questions asked during the process then leave as default. All answers should be ' Easy' and 'Automatic' when you initially attempt the connection setup.
3. For ‘WLAN Settings’, select ‘Scan’ – a list of wireless networks will be displayed each with an ‘SSID’ (Name given to the Network), 'Security' (WEP, WPA-PSK (TKIP) or WPA-PSK (AES)) and 'Signal Strength' value. The SSID will most likely be a modem default value such as 'belkin54g'.
4. Select your wireless connection displayed by pressing 'X'. You will be prompted for your SSID. Scroll right to display 'WLAN Security Setting’' which should be set as a result of the scan, for example: Scan result showed Security of the network having a ‘WEP’ key (password for the network set by the admin generally). If so you will need to select ‘WEP’ and continue entering the WEP key of the network.
5. Continue to ‘Address Settings’ where the Option ‘Easy’ is chosen after which it will ‘Check Network Settings’ and will display your chosen settings.
6. Press ‘X’ to save Settings and then perform a Connection Test.
7. If you succeed in obtaining an IP Address, connecting to the internet, PS Network etc – it is advised that you download the latest software update if necessary. If you haven't done so, you can now Sign Up to the PS Network.

You need to connect the ps3 to the wireless router you use the same ssid on all devices that connect into the router. I think thats where your settings are wrong.

Hi trying to set up wifi but keeps coming up with ssid and wep

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. Before we connect the PS3 console to the internet we must be familiar with the settings of the router. Listed below are the steps on how to access the router and how to connect the console to the internet wirelessly.

How to access the Router:

1. You need to know the ipaddress of your router. You can refer to the manual or check the Default Gateway of your computer (Make sure that you connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable for you to get the Default Gateway). Click on START then RUN. Type CMD on the small box on the lower left of the screen. Type IPCONFIG on the black window and get the value of your DEFAULT GATEWAY (it starts with 192.168.x.x)

2. Open a Browser, Type the DEFAULT GATEWAY on the address bar of your Browser. It will ask you for a username and password. (Refer to the manual of your router or post a reply so that i can provide you the username and password of your router)

3. Go to the Wireless Settings Page of your router. Look for the SSID or the Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. You can personalize it so that you can easily remember the details.

4. Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the Network Key to make it secure.

Steps on Connecting PS3

1. Power-cycle ALL network equipment. Turn off (unplug) ALL of your network equipment, including any Wireless Access Points, Routers, Voice Over IP (VOIP) Modems, and Broadband Modems for two (2) full minutes.

2. Confirm that your internet connection is enabled. in the home menu, go to Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection and select Enabled.

3. Scroll down to Internet Connection Settings and When prompted, "Do you want to continue?" select Yes. On the next screen, select Wireless as your connection method. Pick "Scan"

4. From the list, pick your SSID.

5.On the next screen, press right on the directional pad to continue

6. Pick your WLAN Security Setting (either WEP or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK). If none, pick None (and skip the next step).

7. If you selected a Security Setting, enter your Security Key or Network Key with the keyboard. Press the Start button to exit the onscreen keyboard. Press right on the directional pad to proceed to the next screen.

8. The system will check your network configuration settings and display the information. Save the Settings.

9. Test the connection on the next screen.

10. When the test is complete (usually less than a minute), it will display the results ("Succeeded" or "Failed"). If you have successfully connected to your network, Congratulations, you have completed the network setup process.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

Getting error code 8001000a

__you can try this:______

I struggled setting up the wireless internet connection on my PS3. It seemed that no matter what I did, I kept getting the error message 8001000B. After reading some help materials on this website, I determined that I needed to add to my router list of allowable MAC addresses the PS3 MAC address. Once I did this, the setup was as easy as shown on the manual.

Steps:

1. Locate the PS3 MAC address number: Settings - System Settings - System Information
2. Open the software controlling the rounter. This is usually done my typing the router's IP address on your browser. ie http://192.168.0.1
3. Locate a tab for FILTERS
4. Slelect MAC filters.
5. Enter the PS3 MAC address from previous step as an allowable MAC address.
6. Save entry. At this point rounter will reset itself.
7. Go back and set up the wireless connection on PS3. Select all settings automatic or EASY as the case maybe.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

__or this:___

After looking over the internet for answers I found a fix for the 8001000A and when the Playstation 3 (with firmware version 2.76) is hooked to a wireless router (in my case a Netgear WNR834B v2). Below are the steps I took.
  1. Reset your router to factory defaults.
  2. Go to Select Network Settings under Settings in the home menu.
  3. Select Easy then Wireless.
  4. Then select Enter Manually. Then enter in your SSID of your router. Then rest of the setting should be set to Automatic.
  5. However DO NOT TEST CONNECTION. Just save and turn off the playstation3.
  6. Then turn off Playstation 3 from the back of the drive.
  7. Unplug the power cord and wait 30 seconds.
  8. Plug the power cord in and turn on the Playstation 3 switch.
  9. Wait 5 seconds and turn on the Playstation 3 and it will work. You can even test your connection and it will work.
However if you want your security settings on the router then once the router settings are back then repeat steps 2 through 9. Hope this works for all. I do not think replacing the unit is the answer. Any question just let me know.

It will not connect to the internet at all now it tells me that there is no access point in range and to check my SSid setting what is that

so that means your game console is using wireless connection. it's not detecting the wireless equipment(usually a wireless router) that it's connecting to. SSID is the name of the wireless network of the wireless router or access point. SSID is like an identification, so that your game console or wireless computer if they are connecting to the right equipment and not to your neighbor..

if you have other computers that are wireless and those are working right, it means the problem is on the game console.. try to power cycle the devices, turn off the modem, router or access point, computers and game console.. wait 1 minute, then turn on the modem first, router or access point next, then computers and game console..

I cant play games online

You do not need a DMZ for ps3. jsut setup a SSID if wireless. Encrypt it (for your own saftly) and PS3 has wireless capablity. Just join the network with the SSID and WEP key and the PS3 will get an IP address. Also no port mapping is needed. Leave all port to auto open due to DHCP is going to get your PS3 a new ip every time you turn it on.

Connect ps3 wirelees to internet

On your PS3, do the following:

- scroll to settings
- network settings
- internet connection settings
- select wireless

Follow the on screen instructions, and use the 'easy' set up option as it is all that is required on most.

For your Router:
- Know the SSID
- Have WEP key or any security info to hand
- If you have the SSID broadcast switched off on the router, it may not appear on the PS3. If the PS3 cannot locate your network, try enabling SSID broadcast.

Hope that helps!

Ps3

Your wireless settings have changed because you changed routers. Go into your router's configuration and setup your SSID and wireless security settings. Then reconfigure the wireless settings on your ps3 to match the settings you supplied on your router.

Don't just use a wireless router with its default settings out of the box. Your wireless network will be hacked in days. Refer to your router's manual for information on how to configure it.

Ive got a 40gb ps3 and a bt home hub wireless router how do i connect ps3 to computer ps ps3 is upstairs and pc downstairs

look on the back of your home hub. there should be a Wireless Key in a Grey box. (BT Home Hub wireless settings)

note the wireless key.

go to your ps3. and turn it on log on ect. go to settings and down to network settings (right at bottom).

(Im not sure of the next section because im currently on a network but it should be an option to find network).

anyway you search for networks. should find your home hub.

keep going right untill you have to enter any settings. and write your WEP Key (Not WKA). (wireless key from back of router).
