In FAX mode, try printing a FAX ACTIVITY REPORT from the FAX OPTIONS MENU. IF the print is OK, your scanner light may be defective, and must be replaced by a technician. If the print is black, the DRUM or something in the DRUM CARTRIDGE has no ground or shorted ground. Remove the DRUM CARTRIDGE and CAREFULLY brush or vacuum any loose toner you can see, and reinstall. DO NOT TOUCH THE DRUM ITSELF! IT WILL BE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED BY EVEN A FINGERPRINT! Otherwise, you may have to replace the DRUM CARTRIDGE. It can be purchased as a supply item.
