Question about Televison & Video
I recently purchased a Samsung 933 HD TV as a bedroom TV. The problem I have is that, for no apparent reason the sound (not picture) switches on for about 20 seconds then turns off. This can happen anytime of day or night.
Thinking this is a manufacturing fault with the particular TV I purchased, I took it back to the shop and swapped it for another (same make/model) but to my astonishment the new TV did exactly the same.
Does anyone have any information? I can take it back to the shop within one month and receive a full refund or swap it for another make, but apart from this fault it's a very good TV and I would like to keep it.

Seems like the auto upgrade in standby mode feature was the culprit.
Switching this off from D MENU>SET-UP>SYSTEM>SOFTWARE UPGRADE did the trick.
BTW my firmware version is T-TMDEUC-1003

This happened to me, i thought about taking the TV back, but I quite like it as otherwise it is a fantastic little set for the price.
Anyway, back to the point. It seems that (for me anyway), the automatic firmware update is causing the problem. You need to disable it.
To do this:
Go down to the third icon that looks like a cog?
Select Software upgrade
change Standby Mode upgrade to Off
and good luck!
sods law sais that it wont work, but I haven't seen/heard a problem for the past few days I made the change.
the only downside is that you may need to occasionally check for upgrades.

I was told the same from Samsung that it was a firmware issue, when the TV tries to check for new S/W it will partially power up. I told Samsung i was not prepared to accect a replacement TV from the warehouse just 2 weeks after buying it. It is a fantastic TV so was worried i would have to try and find another bargain!
I decided to disable the automatic S/W update and so far so good! Really disappointing service from Samsung - even though it was an out of box failure they weren't prepared to replace it for a new one.

I've just got off the phone to Samsung Support as I had the exact same problem.
I've yet to be convinced that the following advice from Samsung will fix the problem but it's looking good so far:
While in Analogue TV mode, press the MENU button. If the picture mode is "SHOP" then you have the problem. In this mode the TV will do things all on it's own - the most annoying being:
1) not remembering change of settings
2) the sound comes on when the TV is switched off.
Go into setup and start the Plug and Play set up. When you are asked if you want SHOP or HOME mode, select HOME mode. You do not need to go through the rest of the set up so press "Skip" (MENU) for the remaining plug and play setup options.
To check you are in HOME mode select Analogue TV mode and hit MENU again. If the picture mode is not SHOP you are OK.
The reason I'm concerned that this is not a long term fix is that I am *sure* that when I originally set the TV up, I selected HOME mode not SHOP mode. So my questions are
1) how did it revert to SHOP mode
2) will is revert to SHOP mode again
