PC input to Sony Bravia - from Sony Vaio Laptop - unsupported sig

Good Morning
I am trying to plug my sony laptop into my Sony Bravia 46''LCD. I am using a SVGA cable ( decent cable make) From my laptop into the PC input to the back of the TV. I have changed the settings on my laptop to include monitor 2, and changed the graphic output to monitor. All I see on my TV is ''unsupported signal''

Can some one please assist
Thanks in advance
Julie

May I know whether you are using onboard graphics card or an installed graphics card like nVIDIA or ATI? If you are using the latter then yuo can directly connect using the DVI port. The ouput signal from your DVI port will be HD by default and no adjustments are required. Just plug and play!

"Unsupported signal" suggests one of two things. Either the refresh rate on your computer is set too high (it MUST be at 60 Hz.) or you have the display resolution set too high

Hi Julie,
There are a couple ways to go here. I'll give you the procedures step by step. If you want clarification on anything, just ask. If I make an assumption that is wrong, stop me and let me know. The more you know, the easier this will be for both of us.

First I'd like to double check on MisterSony's diagnosis. Refresh rates that are too high end up as a black screen on many LCD models.

This is my first assumption, the display settings are currently for both monitors. Your original screen is still functioning.

If so,

  • Right click on your desktop
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Settings Tab
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Click the Adapter Tab
  • On the lower part of that tab, there should be Refresh Rate. If it is not at 60 Hz, try to change it to 60 Hz.
  • Click OK
  • Click Apply
  • A pop up may appear asking if you want to keep the changes. Accept the changes.
Get back to me with the results. If it was already set at 60Hz. We go to the next step.
Mike

Why no sound when I connect Sony Vaio to Sony Bravia LCD,perfect picture?

You have to set the playback device on your Vaio to the TV instead of the laptop. You can do this in the Windows control panel under "Sound"

How do i get my laptop connected to my sony bravia tv

Refer its user manual for details. Check whether there is VGA input socket to TV. If not, you can't connect it directly to the laptop. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. Do a search by type in the brand name of your device at its search box and press "Enter".

How do i get onto pc input mode becaus i cannot find it on my tv

Connect your PC with your HDMI cable to both your TV and Laptop.
Press the input button on your remote, then scroll down from TV Mode to your Laptop. It should show up on your menu box on TV screen when you press the Input button.

Hope this helps. I originally had the same problem before I figured it out.

I have an LCD Sony Bravia KLV-46V400A, and a Dell Laptop both TV and PC have HMDI connection, i pluged them both using HDMI cable, however i am unable to view anything on my TV screen and nothing on my pc.

make sure that your pc is shutdown(off) when you plug the hdmi cable in your tv. First, plug hdmi cable into tv and turn on tv. Next, power up pc and it should see your tv. There should be an option on the pc to set the output a projector.

Pc setting for sony bravia

'Unsupported Signal' Error indicates that TV is accepting the signals for Video but not able to display because resolution doesn't matches. Else the message would be 'No Signal'.
Follow the steps-
NOTE- Make sure cable is 15 pin(at both ends) VGA cable, working fine between PC & Monitor.
1.The standard resolution of laptop(any) which would support is 1024*768.
2. Toggle the display output from Laptop Fn Keys depending on Laptop Brand.
3. Connect the cable after settings made.
Also PC Settings will not be highlighted until connection is made.
