If you have never "flashed" the bios before you will need to go the Intel website where you can enter your Intel motherboard model information. That will lead you to diagrams of your motherboard that shows where any related CMOS jumpers are located and what positions they must be jumpered to accept a flash bios update. You will also be provided with the FIRMWARE file download and instructions. Pay careful attention to the instructions as flashing the BIOS chip can disable your computer if you have the wrong firmware or if the power to the computer is lost while updating.    The model number will be printed on the motherboard itself. It is an easy process if you study the instructions. ~Steve Medley

After installing Medieval 2 Total War Gold, when i boot the game up i get an error message saying an unspecified error has occurred and the game will now quit. how can i fix this issue

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I own all of the Total War series and they are very great games. I will try to get you up and running so you can enjoy that classic!

I have heard of this error coming up due to corrupt game files. Meaning, you play a campaign and after 50 turns a certain saved game will be corrupted. The solution is to delete the game file, which would cause you to lose that play time but it will fix the error.

If you have not even started playing, then most likely there was an error during installation of the game. Try uninstalling the game, reboot the computer then reinstall the game.

Another possible issue is that your machine does not meet the system requirements to play the game, thus causing it to crash. Check and make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

Also, make sure your computer has updated drivers for the graphics card.

Lastly, if none of the above helps you, I would recommend contacting the support team for the game.

How to update bios

To find the current BIOS version, follow the steps below:
  1. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS screen by pressing the F1 or F10 key at the first screen.
  2. Write down the BIOS revision number from the Main page. You will use this number to see if HP has a later version available.
    1. Go to the HP Software download page
    2. If you are presented with a page to enter your model number, type in your model number. For example, Pavilion p6230f or TouchSmart 600-1050uk.
    3. Select the version of Windows the computer is using.
    4. Click the BIOS link.
      • If a BIOS update is not listed, HP does not have a BIOS update posted for your computer at this time.
      • If there are several BIOS updates available for different motherboard names, you need to find out what motherboard is installed in your computer. To do this, turn off the power to the computer, remove the side panel, and read the name printed on the motherboard. The name of the motherboard should match or be similar to the name of the download link.
      • If a BIOS update is listed, continue to the next step to download and install the BIOS update.

Click the download link. The instructions for downloading and installing BIOS updates vary. For most computers with Windows XP, download the file, open it and follow the on-screen instructions. For many computers before Windows XP, save the downloaded file to the hard drive, insert a formatted disk, open the downloaded file to copy the BIOS files to the disk, and then restart the computer with the disk still in the drive. The instructions on the download page may be different so carefully read and follow the instructions on the download page and in the installation setup screens. If a 251 or CMOS Checksum error occurs after installing the BIOS update, perform the following steps:
        1. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS screen by pressing the F1 or F10 key at the first screen.
        2. Press the F5 key to load the default BIOS configuration.
        3. Select YES by using the arrow keys, and then press Enter .
        4. Press the F10 key to save the settings and exit.
        5. Select YES by using the arrow keys, and then press Enter .
When the BIOS update is complete, the new BIOS revision number is updated on the Main BIOS screen.

Error message STOP 0x000000F4

Okay, first, try to boot to Safe Mode (hit F8 while booting) and run System Restore. Go back to a day or two before your issue occurred.

Once restored, open up My Computer, right click on your C Drive, then click "Properties", then the "Tools" tab, then under "Error Checking" click "Check Now". Then, reboot so it can run the scan. You might have a hard drive issue that Chkdsk can resolve. Post back with how this goes.
