My airport extreme base station just stopped working for no reason. It does not power on. The front status light is dead, no flashing no nothing. The only lights that work are the ones on the back where the Ethernet cables connect to. They all light up green but nothing happens.

First discovnnect all cables .then power up the router .then see in backside one reset button.press that button for 10 secoonds.

First time you should connect an Ethernet cable to the AirPort, and set it up with the software it came with. Then take a note of the wireless network's name (SSID) and the password (you might want to chance them to your personal preference though), security youre using (WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
You need to perform a soft reset of your router. There directions to do this from the Apple web site are:
Connect the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule to power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil for 1 full second, then release it. The light (LED) will begin flashing amber, indicating that the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule is in soft reset mode.
From the AirPort menu bar item, choose the network created by the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule (the network name does not change).
Open AirPort Utility in Applications > Utilities on a Mac using Mac OS X, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows.
Select the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and click Continue.
A window indicating that the device has been reset will appear.
Select "Restore the previous settings" and select OK.
Move through subsequent windows to make changes to your passwords or other settings as desired, clicking Continue after each one.
When you have moved through all of the selection windows you will be able to select Update. Click Update to install the new settings.
Click Continue to allow your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule to restart.
Wi-Fi base station: Understanding and resolving a blinking amber status light
Your Wi-Fi base station status light blinks amber. Here are some of the more common reasons that the status light may blink amber:
The Wi-Fi base station has not yet been configured because it is new.
The Wi-Fi base station has been reset.
A new firmware update is available for the Wi-Fi base station.
No IP address is available for the Wi-Fi base station.
A Wi-Fi base station in Extended Mode is out-of-network Wi-Fi range of a primary Wi-Fi base station.
The WAN Ethernet cable is unplugged from the Wi-Fi base station.
The Wi-Fi base station lacks a path to the Internet (or local router).
Internet access may be temporarily unavailable from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Your AirPort Time Capsule has detected that the internal hard drive has reported a SMART error, and is failing (This requires firmware 7.5.2, and AirPort Utility 5.5.2).
A persistent, blinking, amber status light indicates that your Wi-Fi base station may require your attention. How to resolve a blinking amber status light alert
Launch AirPort Utility to determine why your Wi-Fi base station status light is blinking amber. Apple recommends that you use AirPort Utility 5.5.2 for Mac, AirPort Utility 5.5.2 for Windows, or a newer version of AirPort Utility if one is available.
AirPort Utility 5.2 or later opens automatically if your Wi-Fi base station requires your attention. You may also choose to launch AirPort Utility at any time. Do not use any version of AirPort Utility earlier than 5.0. In Mac OS X, AirPort Utility is located in the Applications > Utilities folder. In Microsoft Windows, AirPort Utility can be located by clicking Start > All Programs > AirPort. Note: You may also locate and download the latest Wi-Fi base station firmware and software by clicking here.
In the AirPort Utility window, locate your Wi-Fi base station and double-click on it to open the Summary window. Note: If you have more than one Wi-Fi base station, double-click on the icon for the Wi-Fi base station that has the amber circle next to it.
When the Summary window appears, double-click the amber circle to the right of Wi-Fi base station Status to open the Status window.
The Status window lists any conditions that require your attention. Respond to each item until there are no more items listed.
Important: You must reset the Wi-Fi base station using the reset switch to re-enable checking for the conditions you ignored.
Eliminating the blinking, amber status light may require making changes to a specific setting, or putting a checkmark in the "Ignore" checkbox beside any option you don't wish to change. A checkmark simply tells the AirPort that you are aware of the issue and you have chosen to ignore it. For example, you may wish to leave your AirPort open without a password so that anyone can join your wireless network.
Click Update to apply your changes (the Wi-Fi base station will restart).
After the Wi-Fi base station has restarted, the status light should be green and not blinking. If the status light stays amber in color and blinks after the Wi-Fi base station restarts, you may repeat the steps above.
Basically Time capsule is same as Airport extreme base station added with a hard drive to take wireless backup.Put same Network Name and password in both Time capsule and airport base station.Suppose your are making TC as a primary base station and Airport extreme as a secondary base station. Select WDS in both the base stations .In "Wireless Mode" select"Participate in WDS network" in both the base stations.Dont change rest of the options.Put TC Mac id to Extreme base station and extreme Mac ID to TC.now open the airport option in your laptop and check.you can see a single network name.Its DONE.Njoy using wireless
That is the standard for the airport extreme indicating that it is operating properly. If you go to applications and then utilities open up airport utility. Click on your airport in the left hand box then click on manual setup then on base station and then click options under status light you can then choose either flash on activity or always on (which is the default).
This depends... Reaching them wirelessly may be unreliable for a number of reasons, so, I'll proceed on the assumption that you are attempting to test in the simplest lowest-variable situation:
First, make sure that you have the latest Airport Utility for your Mac.
Connect your Mac to the Airport via a single Category 5 (or 5e or 6) cable. Factory-reset the Airpot and then wake up the Mac. If the utility still can't discover your airport, it's probably time for a trip to your local Genius bar as you most likely have a hardware problem.
Lather, rinse, repeat for each of the two airports.
