Start from the begining by turning off your computer with nothing plugged into it except the mouse, keyboard and monitor. Once you have it started plug in the iomega and see if it is recognized. You should get info on the drive from your pc. If not open my computer and see if you can see it. If not sounds like it maybe dead.

I recently restored to factory settings on my HP laptop.once restored I then input my Iomega drive into the USB port to access some of my saved files.

Just to be on the safe side, why not plug in your iomega drive into another known working computer and see what happens. If it works fine and is properly recognized then the anomaly lies within the software of your laptop.

U might want to contact HP - but be fore warned that they are terrible for support if your unit is "out of warranty." If that is the case I would simply google the anomaly and in all likelihood you will get links that will help you fix it yourself.

Is there a way to change windows xp bios settings after boot up, particularily using the command line?

My knowledge of using the command line is equal to my knowledge about astrophysics. Zero.
You can change BIOS settings in the BIOS Setup utility. After the computer manufacturer's splash screen, (Logo screen), and at the bottom of the screen, are shown the key/s to press to enter BIOS Setup.
Goes by real F-A-S-T. Try to write it down. Let Windows load all the way, then restart the computer.
As SOON as you see the manufacturer's splash screen, start tapping on the key/s to enter BIOS Setup. If you miss this window of opportunity, let Windows load all the way. Turn the computer off normally. (Wait at least 20 seconds) This time as Soon as you press the Power On button, start tapping on the appropriate key/s. (In 2 second intervals) You don't get as far as the splash screen? Then unplug the computer from power. Observe Anti-Static Precautions. Remove the CMOS battery, (CR2032), for 1 minute. Press the Power On button in, and hold it in. Hold it in for a count of 5 seconds. Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure two more times. Install the CMOS battery. Plug into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on. This procedure will set the BIOS Settings back to the factory default settings, and clear CMOS Error Codes. Post back as to your findings.

Disk boot failure

The computer isnt seeing your hard drive, make sure your hard drive is plugged in or the pins are set up for master on the back of the drive. If you have it on cs which is cable select it has to be on the end of your ribbon cable. Go into bios to make sure the boot is in the right order.

I just bought an iOmega eGo 160GB external hard drive and have no idea how to use it once I've installed the program. Help!!

From what I'm finding; this drive is a USB 2.0 drive. First, you'll need to plug the drive into the computer via the supplied USB cable (if it came with one) and any AC power for the drive if it requires it.

Then, your PC should detect it and you then need to run the software for it to be configured properly.

To use the drive, simply (if in windows) double click my computer and the drive will probably come up with a name such as eGo or iOmega Hard Disk or possibly even External Hard Disk. From there, double click that drive and start copy files! :)

Flashing Green Light next to voltage switch

For problem #1 there is a MBR (Master Boot Record) problem, meaning that Windows is unable to find Windows. This can either be a software problem or a hard disk failure. If you have your Windows XP disc boot up with it in your cd drive and when it starts press 'R' for repair as this wil repair system files and you will not lose any settings or doc's. When you are running go to your hard disk drive manufacturer and run a diagnosis and repair if neccassary. Problem #2 should sort itself out if left unplugged from the mains supply and the power supply unit for 15 mins or so. If not there is a power supply that needs replacing.
