Just like any other laptop LCD screen, edtechservic. Remove the rubber caps that cover the Philips head screws, remove the screws, and work around the bezel to pop it loose, a little at a time.

Top cover up, you are looking at the LCD screen. Look at the top Left and Right corners of the screen bezel. Look in-between. Now look along the bottom of the screen bezel. See those small rubber caps? G-E-N-T-L-Y pry them loose with a 60 or 90 degree pick. (In your computer repair kit)
Use care, and finesse! You don't want to scratch the clients laptop!
Now loosen, and remove the screws underneath.

Use a Jewelers flat tip screwdriver, (No.2), and ease it in the parting line, that you will see between the bezel, and top cover. Don't go more than a 1/4 inch in! You could be up against the LCD screen metal frame, if you go too far in. (Which could break the LCD screen)

Won't ease in there? Move over an inch or so. You could be hitting the plastic part of the bezel, that snaps down into the Top Cover.
There are several of these plastic protrusions, that stick down from the bezel, and snap into place in the Top Cover. Every few inches or so.

After you start easing one of these plastic snaps out, (Plastic protrusion I spoke of above), move along the edge, pick another place, and start easing it up. Keep bringing the edge up a little at a time. (Bring the back of the flat tip jewelers screwdriver down)
When you have gone along, and raised a large portion of the bezel, you should hear a distinct Click, as one of the plastic snaps come out of the Top Cover.
If not, move back to the first plastic snap that started to come out, and place your flat tip Jewelers screwdriver next to it. Bring the back of the screwdriver down to pop that plastic snap up, and out.

Hearing it your first time might make you a little stomach sick. You'll think you broke something! If you go along, and raise the bezel up a little at a time, you'll be okay. The bezel is made of space age plastic, and is VERY tough! You can't get crazy with it though!

When you have gone almost all the way around the bezel, the last few inches may just pop up, and out.
This link shows you with photos, and information, for a Gateway MT6704 Notebook PC,

This guide is to completely replace the LCD screen. You can just use the information under the first five photos, for bezel replacement.

The Hinge Cover pops up just like an LCD screen bezel pops off. There are no screws holding it down, though.

(Use care, because if there are speakers at each end of the cover, the wires for the speakers may be close to the outside edge.
The LED lights should stay in the laptop body, as this cover is removed, therefore there shouldn't be any wires leading up to LED lights.

You have to ease up an edge with the pick, then gently insert the flat tip Jewelers screwdriver under this edge. Again, Do Not go too far in, or you may pinch wires!

If you look real close, you should see a small indentation in the parting line, in-between the cover, and the rest of the laptop top body cover. It's about the width of a No.2 Jewelers flat tip screwdriver blade. Look C-L-O-S-E. See it?
That indentation indicates where a small prying device should go. Like that flat tip Jewelers screwdriver.

Keep moving the pick down, to hold up the portion of this cover that you have raised up, then continue easing the cover up as you go along with the Jewelers screwdriver.

You may only be able to ease up one side just so far. If so, go to the other side, and work it up. Look close as you go along. Use a flashlight if you have to. Watch that you do not pinch any wires. Once the major portion of this cover is popped up, the rest will follow along.

By the way, that flat strip of plastic along the top of the keypad, and under the LCD screen, is not called a Bezel. The Bezel is the portion around an LCD screen, and snaps into the Top Cover.

A techie told me that the reason my Gateway 7330GZ notebook will not power on is a faulty power distribution IC on the motherboard. The part is impossible to find in my part of the globe (Nairobi, Kenya)...

You need to replace the motherboard. This may not be a cost effective solution.
It may be better to put your money towards a new laptop which will be faster and most likely slightly more than the cost of repairing the Gateway.
You can remove the hard disk from the Gateway and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and then use it as an external USB hard drive for backups and data transfer.

I need to replace the backlight on my laptop

Majority of the time it's NOT the backlight, it's the inverter. Who told you that it was the backlight specifically?

Virtually every lcd is the same procedure. Just remove the screws around the lcd, some are hidden under the rubbers, and CAREFULLY pry the plastic surrounding the lcd. It's basically common sense. Just take it apart....CAREFULLY.

That's about it, really.

Power jack repalcement Gateway 7330GZ Notebook

you have options....#1 send it out to gateway for an arm and a leg...(i have the same model and had the same problem), #2 find a local computer repair store...they will most likely charge about 30 for the part.(that's what i was charged + 60 an hour for labor took 2 hours...) or #3 do it yourself, if you can solder then i can talk you through most of the dis assembly..plus you can get the part remarkably cheaper

7330GZ Gateway laptop keyboard doesn't work

There is one thing you can try. Uninstall the drivers for the keyboard from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the keyboard and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid the Shift key function has failed and the keyboard will need replaced in order to fix it.

Replacing the screen on the 7330gz

CHPMarine -

Replacing an LCD screen in a laptop is no simple process; It generally involves dismantling a LOT of the computer just to access the connectors and brackets for the screen. I recommend having it done by a tech if you can - take a look at www.craigslist.org to find a tech in your area in need of work; many people will advertise tech support under the Services Offered position for a very low cost.

Otherwise, there are several screws you need to remove. On the bottom of the computer are generally between two and six screws that hold the power/hinge bezel in place, as well as the keyboard. Remove these screws and CAREFULLY pull up the bezel. The keyboard may also have screws under that bezel, remove those before lifting the keyboard (usually doesn't have to be completely disconnected, just shifted aside, but don't stress the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard too much).

With the bezel and keyboard out of the way, you should see a cable that connects the motherboard to the LCD through one of the LCD hinges. Disconnect that cable.

The plastics covering the LCD should have a handful of rubber or plastic 'plugs', between four and ten of 'em, with small screws located underneath each. Remove these screws, then very gently use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the LCD plastics apart at the seams along the side.

Once the front plastics are removed from the LCD, disconnect the long, slim PCB that rests beneath the actual screen. Remove the screws that hold the screen to the mounting brackets along its sides, and the LCD should be loose. Carefully lift it from the rear plastic cover, and you'll see a ribbon cable connected to the display. Release the clips that hold the ribbon cable in place on the screen, and you're ready to put in the new LCD!

I know its long and circuitous, but repeat the steps above in reverse to install the new screen.

Hope this helps!
