There are panel/covers on the base or near the bottom edge of most laptops these enclose the RAM and hard drive. Remove these screws and covers to reveal the hard drive and possibly the hard drive carrier.
Before you attempt this I suggest to login to the Sony WEB site and download the drivers for the graphics and sound device including modem and LAN if you don't already have them and back up your data. You will need these drivers when you install a new and larger hard disk and the operating system.

Please how can i fix this problem of this kind my laptop is showing no-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready

Invariably there has been a hardware failure of the primary hard disk with operating system (also known as HDD)

You would have to replace it with a new disk and try to restore as much data (if you are lucky) from the old disk.
It would we wise to install SSD instead of the old tech HDD if there is still some life on the laptop

Alternatively, if you are a tech geek (and if your laptop supports)
- Verify if the BIOS is able to recognize the HDD.
- Set bios for boot from usb
- Boot from a USB stick and try to access the hdd
- Recover as much data as possible
- Run a disk diag

Laptop very very slow to start up

If you have a virus program installed, it ismost likely is running a scan on your hard disk. It can slow down your computerespecially if you have a large hard drive.
To make your computer (hard disk) lean and mean, uninstall any programs you donot use.
Also you need to maintain your hard disk by running Disk Cleanup this willremove old temp files and old compressed files etc.
This will reduce the number of files the virus scanner has to scan. Plusrun Defrag. this makes your files contiguous so the system can access filesoff the hard drive quicker because it does not work as hard.Disk Cleanup and Defrag should carried out at leastonce a month.

Acer Extensa 5420-5038 Laptop I have access to the CMOS (via master password) but i cannot get access to the Hard Disk (also password protected) Any suggestions?

The hard disk passwords can be removed only by the manufacturer, at great cost - over $500 per disk. Unless you have really critical files that you cannot lose you should just replace the hard disk and reinstall.

My new laptop see the toshiba sata mk1646gsx from my old -damaged- laptop but i can't use it when i connect it by USP conection, because it has password, how can i use my old hard didk

Your old hard disk may have been password protected (it may have the same BIOS password that was used on your old laptop). To access the data on the old hard drive, enter the hard disk password and if it is correct, you will get access to the data on the old hard drive.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I hope get along with all of you and also to get an answer to my problem :) First of all, sorry if I may be long but I like explaining in detail so that you can understand my...

When you have everything connected and are ready to access the old hard drive, right click in the drive and see if you get the run as administrator option, if you do, click on it and log in as the administrator of your machine, if you don't get that option, go to the control panel and security and disable the User Account Control, reboot and you should be able to access it. just be sure to turn it back on later.

Install new hard disk??

Turn your laptop over so you can see the buttom. There is a panel at the side of the laptop and two screws holding it down. Take the two screws out and slide your hard drive out. Remove the screws at the side of the hard drive caddy and installing new one is reverse of removal

Installing windows on acer notebook help

you cannot usually switch installed operating systems from computer to computer like that and still expect windows to boot, but with windows 98 it *might* work.

to install windows 98 on the usb drive, insert and boot from the windows 98 disk like you were to install it on that computer , and then, it should, before it formats any drives, give you a choice of what drive to format.

HDD prob

The machine should recognize that there is a hard drive there, if it doesn't then the hard drive has crashed or failed. You will have to replace it.
