I have a dyson ball all floor vacuum and I was vacuuming with the wand and sucked up a small toy into the hose. How do I get it out?

Generally, this is a job for patience!  First, remove the hose from the unit.  Try a broom handle to push the toy out...you will not damage the hose.  If that doesn't work, you can use a piece of stiff wire fed through the hose with hooked end.  An electrician's fishtape...a snake...is often useful.

Suction tranfer

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 includes a changeover valve which diverts suction power from the main cleaner head to the wand and hose, when you remove the wand from the vacuum.

If your machine doesn't seem to be diverting the suction correctly, we'd recommend checking for any obstructions in the ducts and at the base of the hose. Our online Support guide should help: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24new/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc24/check-the-wand-and-hosedc24

Dyson no suction in upholstery wand

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson upright vacuums, DC18 is engineered to divert suction to the hose and wand automatically when it's standing in the upright position. If your DC18 doesn't seem to have suction from the wand when standing upright, you may have a blockage in the hose or wand. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to check for this: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc18/dc18-all-floors/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/no/remove-the-wand-from-hose

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 horus for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue. However if you'd like any further guidance from our experts after you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson extension handle

Hi Carol, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you've described sounds very unusual as DC24's wand handle assembly should be easy to replace after use. It's worth checking there are no blockages in the wand or hose that could be jamming the mechanism.

Our Support guide may help: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

If you can't see anything it would be worth contacting our experts directly for some advice. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi Lindsay, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear about this. When your vacuum is standing upright, the suction should be automatically diverted to the wand and hose for above-floor cleaning. From what you've described, it sounds like your machine may have a blockage, or something jamming the changeover valve which is preventing it from moving freely.

To check everything is correct with your machine, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/dc28filterwashvid/wand-suction-dc28

This should resolve the issue, but if you would like some further advice after you've given this a try, our experts are happy to help. You can reach us by emailing askdysonUS@dyson.com.

Best wishes,

My Dyson 41 has just started only sucking through the tube

We've had our DC41 for 4 months now and suddenly noticed no suction at the base as well. Base motor works fine.Thought I'd take one last look before sending in for repair. At the base of the attachment hose near the motor is a small red tab. I depressed it and pulled the entire hose off the motor. Sure enough inside was a eyeliner pencil our daughter had unknowingly vacuumed up. I couldn't see it just peering the length of the hose. Even with a flashlight. You don't see mention of the small red tab but it allows you to see close up rather than peering down the hose if something is lodged near the motor. Apparently this pencil prevented the internal hardware to switch from wand to base suction when the handle is reclined in floor vacuum mode. These vacuums have strong suction and they will pull up the oddest things! Hope this helps!!

Hi there, it sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To test this, remove the wand handle from the hose and test the suction at the top of the hose. If its strong here, then you will need to remove the blockage from the wand handle. If the suction is still poor, you will need to remove the hose by pressing in the catch on the hose cuff near the base of the machine and removing any blockages.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards

At the bottomor end of the wand there is a curve hose. That is removable. Pull the wand out all the way and turn that curved piece down. It slides out. There is a little channel. It should come right off. I've been there. Let me know if it helps.
