Question about Sony VAIO PCG-K23 Notebook

Open Question

Lost all of my internet connections, broadband, wireles...

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP Pro, up until recently I have had no problems getting online, for wireless, I use a Belkin net. card, and it does show, when I am near enough, a good strong signal, and at home, I could plug straight in to my IP modem, or i could connect through the home computer, no problem, can't do that either. I have since installed, uninstalled a lot of things, and there are a few programs that hang (in other words, it could be a few different reasons its not working) I did call my IP support, and it sounded like everything was okay up to a point, then was told to go to ipconfig, release and renew, and I dont remember what it said, something about a kernel? I just tried it, but I don't recall how to do the release/renew command.all it says now is local area connection media disconnected and under that is psuedo-interface with connection, ip address, and default gateway with a question mark after.and my wireless is with windows wireless connect I am not sure how these settings are supposed to be, and I could use some help setting those right, also. The catch-22 here is I could probably do a clean re-install or repair with my cd's, but my dvd/cd-rom drive has quit working (I have heard that it's a driver update thing, but I can't download drivers unless I get online. Please help, I am dead in the water here! Thanks

it might be a spyware issue.....click start then run in the box that opens type 'msconfig' without the ' ' a windows opens titled System Configuration Utlility in that window along the top is a tab called startup and remove everything that isn't your antivirus you can tell in the command section of the window if it has for norton it says symantec or norton antivirus. or list off the items that are there and send them to me and ill tell you which ones to keep...

Network did not assign a network address to the

Hi there, the only reason it doesn't work it's because the wireless key is not correct. It usually shows limited connectivity when the wireless key is not correct. Even just a letter upper or lower case will cause the problem. Since you are connected with the other computer go under the Router settings and double check the wireless key. Check what kind of encryption the router is using, make sure your wireless adapter can support it.

No sound

When you formated your disc to install a new XP, Installation will try to install all known drivers it has !

Most of new PCs and laptops have more modern devices that are not supplied by standard windows installation (it is normal) !
That's why you MUST install Drivers for your product (in your case it is SONY).

(I am not sure XP is supported for VAIO)
Try to find XP drivers for it. After installation of all drivers, you'll get sound, (correct video), lan, WL etc.

I can't connect either

If you mean connect through the IP Setup Program, you have to disable Windows Firewall on XP or higher machines. The IP Setup program will not see the cameras until firewall is disabled

Wireless network connection

you may need to run the network wizard, as your sony may not be set up as using a gateway type connection and may be instructing other pcs to connect via itself and not on the network.
