Question about GPS
Trying to download from CD, map update for Magellan 4250, I did the software update some time age to 4.60...When I try downloading, I get 1 of 2 messages...."data transfer failure" or "failed to read source file" ..has anyone had this problem?
I am using Vista and have a Maestro 4250 with firmware 4.60 downloaded (hardware -3; product ID 746)
I am attempting to upgrade to 31 from Basemap and detailed 29 (AAA date 21)
In the step
I get a failure window:
Magellan Update Wizard 188.8.131.52
FAILED TO READ SOURCE FILE
I had the same issue and Tech support sucked. Make sure your firewalls are off, then restart the software and go through the steps. When it errors again, click finish and exit the software, restart the gps, and restart the software to do the install again. Had to do this 3 times and it got a little further every time until it finally went to installing, then it was fine.

I was able to get the update to work using Windows XP (not sure which service pack) but not with Vista Home. It looks like it needed to create and use drive E when transferring over the files.

I called tech support and they said that the update requires XP SP1 or SP2, NOT SP3. I have not tried it yet, but they told me it was a problem with not being compatible with XP service pack 3

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
