Is this a new issue or a recent harware/cable change or did this use to work and now has the disconnect issues.
Ensure that your cable has NO Splitters (especialy outside) from the Drop outside to your modem.
Check all cableing between Computer and Modem to Cable Drop.
You can also look at the Modem Status Page to check your UpStream and DownStream signals. You may have to have someone come out to check out the line running from your house to the pole (or pedestal if its underground)? Many factors can cause an outside cable to deteriorate, and when that happens you can end up with alot of signal leakage and frequent disconnects. And that goes for both overhead and underground lines.Good Luck, and post back if you need more help. (try to include your Modem Status Logs)
It probably is not your modem at all. Usually its limited by the computer or ISP you are connecting to, If possible i would try changing the # that you are dialing into and see if you connect at a faster speed. One thing to check is to go to device manager and click on properties on the modem and make sure it is set to max 56K Hope this helps you.
Dialup phone lines usually only transmit a minimum of 8 Baud. NetZero's high speed (5X) faster is done by caching pages you have already visited, not actially running internet but loading pages faster on your computer. Check your modem setting, 56k, 112K are normal speed setting to connect. Check your actual connection speed, 28.8 is probably all that you are getting on dialup.
the usual maximum speed for a v92 dial up modem is around 48-52kbps, although sometimes the way windows calculates the speed can be different, showing higher speeds than is actually possible, hence the 115k that shows when connected.
The only way you can get faster download speeds is to download the 'Onspeed' software which compresses pictures etc to enable twice the download speed.
