My Acer Aspire One has half a good screen and half a black screen. Everything seems to be working as long as you only use the left half of the screen.
Power it up with an external monitor connected. If you get a full display on the external monitor, this confirms you have a problem with the built-in screen or the built-in lead connecting it to the motherboard, and not an item like the motherboard or built-in graphics chip (which are used regardless, whether image is sent to the internal screen or external monitor). The internal screen can be replaced, but before doing that, I'd suggest checking that the internal lead from the motherboard to the screen is intact and secure. Unfortunately, this entails some disassembly, which most home users would not be comfortable with.
