Fan runs but drive mechanism kaput

Hi guys, I've got this 6 year old downdraft fan. Complaint is that the drive motor runs without any movement up or down of the unit. Discovered it when in the down position. Manually raised it up, where it now resides. Blower fan works as advertised. any ideas? This appears to be the only piece of gear that the builder didn't leave me a manual or parts xmatic for - wouldn't you know... Thanks, Deano K. Beaverton, OR

SOURCE: blower fan operation

I would order a new Controller Board. Depending on the exact version, it could be a problem with a relay, or a triac on the board, that are meant to power up the motor.

My downdraft vent no longer removes cooking fumes and smells for days after cooking. We have changed the screens, but still have residue coming from the vent inside the cabinet. Does this vent need to

Remove the motor together with the blower wheel, go to the local self service car-wash and use the engine de-greaser cycle (if not available, buy a can at the auto supply, spray the fan blade and let sit for a while) and get all the grease of the fan blades. make sure the fan blades are cleaned thoroughly. the fan will now ran quietly and will remove all the grease away. in the future, clean the filters often.

I have a Broan Elite 2736 downdraft range fan that is 3 years old. Upon using it , it started to go up and then down without stopping until I unplugged it. I replugged it in and it continues to go up and...

Broan model 2736A won't stay up

In my case, I pushed the button, the housing goes fully up, then right back down. I removed and disassembled the unit for cleaning. After Assembly I located two microswitches that cause the extension moror to stop at the top and at the bottom of the swing. In my case, the inertia of the motor caused the unit to "Coast" thru the top of the stroke and continue back down. I bent the outer 1/3 of the metal tabs that depress the microswitches so that the unit stopped rising a wisker sooner and no longer goes back down without pushing the button. The same coasting theroy may apply at the bottom of the stroke. The motor that runs the up and down motion is controlled by three switches, the two limit switces plus the momentary push button switch. If you don;t need to completely remove your unit for cleaning, the microswitchs can be located by removing the fan housing and looking up from inside the cabinet (under the stove) on the right side. IN my case, there was 10 years of goop to be removed.

JVB37H1BB downdraft ventilation system stuck

Folks, I have experienced the same problem several times - in all of my cases the problem was solved by simply opening the back panel and taking out the motor assembly and re-aligning it. Check out this URL for a blow up of what's inside and parts list -

The problem is that the arm tends to slip out and therefore won't raise or lower the hood anymore. Be careful when aligning it can be a little tricky - carefully observe the how the motor works outside of the housing via the switch and you will get the idea.

Ge JVB67 downdraft was stuck - didn't come up. Now, when plugged in, the motor "runs" constantly and vent will not rise.

you will have to disassemble the mechanical area to get to the moving parts and also clean and lubricate the telescoping parts with WD-40.

30" viking downdraft goes up & down fan runs and will not responed when pushing on touch panel

After 11 years of use, the same problem just happen a few days ago - fan keeps running, doesn't respond to the on/off switch. Also cannot reset filter alert. As far as I can tell the entire switch panel isn't working. Or worse, shorted out. Might have to replace the ribbon and some switches.
For example the switches can be found at For example -->
There's a another thread on this forum:
I'll post the exact solution as soon as I have it figured out completely.

Install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

Hi schmidt_rich,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You took over as owner builder when your builder "took the $ and ran". You are installing kitchen cabs now and discovered the PVC vent pipe (which goes into the foundation and out the side of the house) is in the wrong place for the location of the downdraft unit and integral blower. The vent is actually under the electrical connection panel. You were told initially( 2 yrs ago when you bought the downdraft cook'n'vent) there could be no bends in the exhaust fan route or it would change the effectiveness. Does anyone know if it is ok to put a bend in the connection to the vent? Or do you need to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I can syphathise. I have had to deal with this same problem. I have found that one ell will not degrade the effectiveness enough to notice. If you need more then you may need to adjust cabinets.

Thermador downdraft does not stop going up and going down automatically

I had a similar issue with the Thermador CVS30R hood continually going up and down, and also issues with the fan starting.
The issue was found to be a loose control arm off the motor. The arm itself moved outward on the motor shaft which resulted in it missing the switches that control the hood up/down and fan start.
This was a somewhat simple fix. Make sure the hood is in the down position. Unplug the unit from power(important!). Unscrew the screw that connects the drive arm to the drive link. Unscrew the motor/control cover, then unscrew the 4 screws holding the complete motor/control unit on (2 Phillips-head screw on each end of the assembly). Pull the complete motor/control assembly out, be careful of wiring. Once out, push the drive arm on firmly onto the motor assembly and tighten the screw. When doing so make sure the 2 micro switch arms are not caught and are free to switch.
When placing the unit back in, ensure all wiring is clear from being caught and ground is reconnected. Put it all back together and done!
I found this link to be useful for a parts/configuration diagram:
