Fan runs but drive mechanism kaput

Hi guys, I've got this 6 year old downdraft fan. Complaint is that the drive motor runs without any movement up or down of the unit. Discovered it when in the down position. Manually raised it up, where it now resides. Blower fan works as advertised. any ideas? This appears to be the only piece of gear that the builder didn't leave me a manual or parts xmatic for - wouldn't you know... Thanks, Deano K. Beaverton, OR

SOURCE: blower fan operation

I would order a new Controller Board. Depending on the exact version, it could be a problem with a relay, or a triac on the board, that are meant to power up the motor.

Whirlpool SC8720EDB cooktop stove independent vent switch is not starting downdraft exhaust fan, but the exhaust fan works fine when left side burners were turned on

Can you get to the switch terminals and try jumping them out with a piece of insulated wire? That would tell you if the switch is defective (my suspicion). Please be careful not to touch any live terminals - only the wire insulation you use for the jumper.

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

Hi, Your mechanic could be right. Sounds like the engine is running too fast for transmission to shift properly. Have him look it over. Good luck.

Dayton 30' pedestal fan will run for an hour or so, seems to run hot.. there is slight burning smell. then fan makes little noise and shuts down.

Whats happening is that your fan is overheating (usually due to a loss of lubrication in the bearings), and the motor's thermal cutoff is kicking in (due to overtemperature), and shutting down the motor.
This thermal cutoff circuit is installed in consumer motors to prevent fires.

You have two solutions:
(1) disassemble your nice 30" pedestal fan (I've done this a few times - any handy guy/gal can do it),
and lubricate (with automotive bearing grease ($3 at any auto parts store), or 3-in-1 oil for those spots that won't take bearing grease) the bearings, and
reassemble. Re-lubricate on a regular schedule to prevent recurrence.
(2) buy a new one. Give your old fan to the kid on the block who thinks he/she can fix anything &
tell him/her it just needs to be lubricated.

We have a tempstar down draft furnace. 2 years ago the heat exchangers where replace because we were told they were cracked. This year the downdraft motor was makikg a lot of noise & we were told the...

Sounds like the low limit or high limit is out these control the fan motor. They are usually set to kick on around 150 degrees and set to go off around 95 to 100 degrees. Over heating does happen with cracked heat exchangers and it can possibly take these two items out. Normally your furnace should run approximately five minutes or a little less then your fan motor comes on and then for cooling down burners should drop and the fan motor should run again roughly five minutes or so then shut down. Times may vary as to your settings.

Hi,
Do not let them change the motor as long as it is still running...I have seen them run like that for many years...yes, it could fail tomorrow or it could run for years...unless you absolutely need that unit to run with out failure... then keep the motor theway it is and when it does go it should only take a day to get the part and an hour to replace it... in fact any reoutable A/C company will have a motor in the truck...

Dehumidifier runs but doesn't produce water

Your dehumidifier has a circulating fan that draws the room air over the coils. If there's no air movement out the front or back of the unit, the fan motor may be burned out or stuck, or the fan blade may be broken. If so, you need to replace the fan motor or the fan blade.

Fan has difficulty turning, buzzes

Hi
Tha model is a Maytag.
There are a few things to check here, and it's best always to use the proces of elimination.
These are the things you need to check:
1.MOTOR, DOWNDRAFT
2.BLOWER ASSEMBLY
3.SCROLL, BLOWER ASSY.
4.CORD, POWER (MOTOR)

as you mention before sometime run and sometimes do not run.
youll have to start by checking those items and make sure they are not damage or obstructed. I have some wiring diagrams for that model, if you would like for me to email them to you, please let me know.
I hope that will help you
