Can't detect the FreeAgent Pro 500 GB external disk anymore after it worked for a few months.

Purchased a Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 1TB USB/eSTA/1394, approx 2 months ago - It was working fine, then one day out of the blue, the computer no longer recognized it. Plenty of light fade in/ out from the HD, no longer the normal recognition "clump" noise from the computer when a USB is connected, disconnected. Can no longer access the HD -have important info on there. Now I just get the orange light fade in fade out, some kind of "cog turning over noise"...I've Googled this problem and it seems that half of the Planet Earth's entire population, have experienced the same problem, but know has resolved it.....NOT EVEN SEAGATE! please help..

My PC does not recognize the HD anymore. The HD's lights are on, but it makes a clicking sound for a few minutes after being turned on, but then the noise stops.

SOURCE: external hard drive

I just worked through this same issue with LaCie tech support and they fixed it- it was a bad power supply. Fortunately I had another LaCie drive and when I plugged the power supply from that one in to the "misbehaving" drive, everything booted up fine.

Try a different cable. If that doesn't work buy a new enclosure and install the drive.

External HDD no longer recognized by new win7 PC

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked. I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Maxtor 3200 was working fine. Suddenly my

Try connecting it to another computer.
If it is not detected, then either the disk-drive "inside" the unit is dead, or the "adapter" (USB-to-Disk-Drive) inside the unit is dead.

If the latter, disassemble the case, remove the disk-drive, and attach it as an "internal" hard-drive to your computer.

Dvr no longer recognizes hard drive

Try switching around some wires.
If that doesn't work then it might be damaged.
I suggest plug it into another computer to see if it still works. Find out if it's the hard drive or the computer.

No longer recognized by Win Me PC

UNINSTALL THE HARD WARE FROM THE SYSTEM ..UTILITIES FOLDER IN CONTROL PANEL
IF ITS RECOGNISED THERE IT MEANS THE DRIVE NEEDS THE SAME WIN ME DRIVERS WHICH COULD BE CORRUPT
YOU CAN TRY TO CONFIG IN SETUP TOO.
CONFIGURE THE HD IN HARD DISK DETECTION NOT AS AUTOMATIC IN BIOS , BUT AS LBA MODE DEFINING THE CYLINDERS AND THE HEADS AND OTHER DATA WHICH IS USUALLY WRITTEN ON THE HD WHITE COVER.
