Can't configure my laptop to this new router. It asks for a password, which I did not need to use on my MAC when I installed it. Where do I find the "password".

    I tried this solution. I STILL don't know which "code" to use- I've tried them all.

  • drjanb Nov 15, 2008

    "Inside the Router" to get the password. On the back of my router I have 4 code numbers. Which one do I use?
    When I was installing this router (new as of last week) I was never asked for a password.

    Thank You for your assistance. I still did not solve the problem. Can I call anyone regarding this issue?

    I feel frustrated because I just bought the router and modem (my new puppy ate through the wires of my old one), I have been unable to connect my laptop to the internet and I have just spent another $10 trying to do so - next step is going back to Best Buy for assistance.

    I do appreciate what you have attempted to do on-line.

  • drjanb Nov 16, 2008

    I tried your suggestion and it still didn't work.  I have the Geek Squad coming over on Monday.  The reason I contacted your web site was due to my searching "DYNEX.com" and your site came up.  I thought you were the official site for this router.

    Thank you for your assistance.

Hi,

Initially, pls postback with the brand/model of the router. Alternately if Windows based, just set the new laptop to automatically "Obtain IP address" inside the TCP/IP Properties of the Local Area Networking or Internet Connection. Another to try is determine the networking numbers used by the MAC which includes IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, DNS servers and enter the same to the new laptop with the exception of the IP address, just do a +1. Example if the MAC uses 192.168.1.11, set the new laptop to use 192.168.1.12, all others stay the same. A hitch though maybe encountered if the router uses WEP, WPA security or MAC address filtering.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Based on your recent post, new router, new modem, then perhaps you could try:

    • install the modem first and connect it to your computer using LAN / Ethernet cable;

    • run the CD installer that came with it;

    • verify that that single computer can then access the internet;

    • remove the modem CD installer and put in the router CD installer;

    • follow on screen instructions;

    • connect only the router when instructed to do so.
    Cheers.

    If the passwor di the wireless key, to access to the router via wireless then you need to connect to the router with a cable.
    Then open router IP using Internet Explorer.

    Refer to the router manual to get router IP, router access ID and password, and procedure to access the router control panel using Internet Explorer.

You may need to access the router's setup page using the working computer to verify the wireless settings, which includes the wireless security enabled in the router. By the way, what is the model of the router you have?

Posted on Nov 15, 2008

  • Jannette Amandy Nov 15, 2008

    You need to access your router's setup page by launching IE and typing 192.168.2.1 on the address field. If it asks for a password, type the password that you can remember you setup when you first run the setup cd of your Dynex router. Otherwise, just leave the password field blank.

    Once you're in the router's page, click Wireless from Menu then click Security. There you will find the wireless/network key configured in the router.

    Hope this helps!

My iPhone does not connect to the Zoom X6 DSL modem. I can connect my laptop and a couple other wireless devices but not my iPhone. Is there a setting I should change either on the router or on my iPhone?...

there is 2 possibility 2 change in router first WEP or wpa security code if in your router need password for connect it then you need to find that key code to enter in iPhone.
Second if in router MAC filter is enable then you need to add your iPhone MAC address in allow list of router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings.

Clickon wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.
First find the mac address of your iPhone in network setup menu then add that mac id in mac filter of router configuration menu.Then save settings and check.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Trying to get on internet but its asking for a wep key or a wpa key I just completed hook up to netgear router have desk top and a wirerles lap top laptop is asking for info

The WEP and WPA key is configured in the router's wireless settings.
WPA is a stronger encryption than the older WEP encryption, I suggest you use WPA or better still WPA2.
To secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and the wireless card in the computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have bought an Apple Mac notebook but am having problems accessing the internet. I think I have inadvertently changed the password to the wireless router as I have succesfully conected my main computer...

This is a confusing report. If you are successfully connecting two other computers to the router using the original router password, why can't you connect your MacBook Pro to the router using the same password? Or is it that the other two computers "know" the original password but you don't?
If one of the other two computers is a Mac, use the Keychain Access utility to look up the stored password for the router.
If not, use one of the other two computers to access the router's configuration screens directly and obtain the password that way.

I'm trying to set up a new laptop to my belkin router

When you first setup a wireless router you need to connect the wireless router to the computer with a LAN cable.
Then you open a browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and on the address bar you type the IP configuration address of the wireless router eg. for Belkin wireless router it is http://192.168.2.1
Enter the default login name and password.
You should change the password and you should setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the router.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.
