I already posted the problem regarding Compaq Power Led and Speakers connectors. I only could connect the Power Swithc and HDD. You gave me a link to visit and see some pics that show connectors on the Motherboard. However, I followed the pics and still can't figure out the Speakers and Power Led.

I am not a geek. I really need someone that can guide me with this cables.

I appreciate your time and help, thanks.

The Compaq motherboard model is 06C0h, Pentium 3, Socket 370 FC-PGA, Compaq 686C3. I'm using the pc right now, therefore, I need to turn on/off in order to follow your suggestions. I been working since last night (Thursday) with a magnifier but the MB does not have any labels written on the panel. There are only numbers with letters: FB3, C46, C44, C45, FB3, etc.

Hope you can find a pic of the same model, thanks.

Ok on the front panel pin header , you should see 2 pins labeled SPK for the speaker and 2 pins labeled pw led. And also you should see 2 pins for the reset connector. Use a flashlight and /or a magnify glass, the letter may be faint.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I cannot get a sound from my pc. where do i connect the speakers

If the speakers has the common round 3,5mm jack you have to plug it in the green hole at the back of the power. If the speakers has a USB connector you have to put it in any available USB connector at the front or back panel of your computer's tower.

I would like to see an inside wiring diagram to see if I plugged something in wrong or not

If this problem is in direct relation to a Compaq Presario SR5501F desktop computer;

HP Support > Compaq Presario SR5501F > Motherboard Specifications,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01237538&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3740354

The motherboard is made by ECS for HP/Compaq
ECS model number is MCP61PM-HM
HP/Compaq's name is Iris 8.

There is no wiring diagram per se to give you.
I'll have to detail the wiring connections step by step for you.
This may be a little lengthy.

On the link above you are looking at a photo of your motherboard.
There is also an illustration available.
I would like you to copy, and save them both.

Using this method you will be able to enlarge them for further clarity, of the connections to the motherboard.

Right-click on the motherboard photo. Left-click on Save Image As, in the list.
In the Save Image window that comes up, you will see the heading File name:
To the right of File name: will be c01237541.

Unless you want to search for c01237541 you may wish to do this:

Put your mouse cursor after the 1 in c01237541.
Left-click twice.
Make one space with your spacebar.

Type Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo photo.
(Mobo stands for MOtherBOard)

You want this photo to go to your My Pictures folder.
(Windows XP. Different for Vista)
At the top of the Save Image window is the heading - Save in:
In the box to the right you should see - My Pictures

If you do Not you will have to change the destination.

Left-click on the blue down arrow to the right of the box.
In the list, left-click on - My Documents, then left-click on - My Pictures.
Now go to the bottom right of the Save Image window, and left-click on Save.

In the link, scrolling down you will see the heading - Motherboard layout
Left-click on the + sign next to Motherboard layout.
Copy and save it as you did for the motherboard photo.

In the File name: box type - Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo Illustration.

Now all you have to do is go to your My Pictures folder (Start>My Pictures), and double-click on the photo, or illustration.
Left-click on the Zoom In icon at the bottom of the window to enlarge.
(+ sign in a magnifying glass icon)

Wiring Connections to the Motherboard:

A) Front Panel header: (Panel 1)

The Front Panel, is the plastic front of your computer where the Power On button, HarDDrive LED light, and Power On LED light is located.

The Front Panel header is the connections, or pins, on the motherboard, where the cables (Wires) go to from the Front Panel.

On the motherboard illustration it is marked as Panel 1.
(Down in the bottom right corner)

On your motherboard, Panel 1 (Front Panel header) is Black in color.
As you can see it is a rectangular block, and is placed vertically.
Has 2 columns of pins.
5 in the left column, 4 in the right column.

The Left column is numbered Odd.
Starting at the Top going down, Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9

The Right column is numbered Evenly.
Starting at the top going down, Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive LED light.
(HDD activity LED)
Pin 1 is for the Positive connection ( + )

Pins 5 and 7 are for the Reset switch.
Pin 7 is for the Positive connection. ( + )

Pin 9 is reserved, and may not be used.

Pins 2 and 4 are for the Message LED light. (LED = Light Emitting Diode)
Power On LED light.

Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.
There is No Pin 10.

If the cables (Wires) are not marked coming from the Front Panel, you will have to remove the Front Panel, and trace where they go.

You will be able to physically see where wires go to the Power On switch, Power On LED light, HarDDrive activity LED light, and so on.

B) 24-pin ATX main power cable:

Only plugs in one direction. Plugs next to the blue IDE connector on the motherboard. (To the right of the ram memory slots)

C) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.
Looks like this,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

Plugs into the whitish square 4 socket hole connector on the motherboard, next to the Processor socket.
(On the motherboard illustration this connector is labeled - ATX12V1

D) Processor Fan:
Connects to the 3-pin CPU header on the motherboard. Right above the ram memory slots.

E) Harddrive:
You have a SATA harddrive. (500GB in size)
Connects to the SATA 1 header on the motherboard.
The SATA 1 header on the motherboard is Black in color.

The data interface cable has 7 pins.
Looks similar to this, (May not have a 90 degree elbow though),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_Data_Cable.jpg

The SATA power cable has 15 pins.
Looks like this,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

NOTE*
If your SATA harddrive has a place for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin Peripheral power cable, DO NOT plug both power cables in!!
This will lead to damage of the SATA harddrive!

The standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable looks like this,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

(The standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable connector, has had a misnomer for years as a Molex connector.
Molex was the first design implemented when this style of connector came out.
The name stuck.
It is the same as calling an adjustable open-end wrench a Crescent wrench)

F) Optical drives:
If you have a DVD burner drive it plugs into the SATA header 2.
(Uses the same style of SATA data interface cable, as the SATA harddrive)

If any of your optical drives are IDE, they plug into the blue IDE header, next to the ram memory slots.

This is what a flat ribbon IDE data interface cable looks like,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics

(You can click on the photo to enlarge. You can enlarge twice)

G) The Floppy Disk drive, (If your computer came with one), plugs into the FDD connector shown on the motherboard illustration.
(Black in color, right above the 24-pin ATX main power cable connector)

Do you need information on the USB connections?

Presario 6000 desktop wont power up after transporting. Opened cover & I have loose wires that may be the problem. The loose wires are labeled p9 &p7.

Unfortunately, I do not know P9 and P7. Can you tell me if they are multiple colored wires going into a header/connector? If they are single wires or thin wires you may be able to look at your header of wires which connect the pwr button, rst switch, power led, speaker ( 4 pin thin connector ) if p9 and p7 came off here they could be your power switch.

TRYING TO HOOK UP MU POWER BUTTON NEED TO KNOW

Hi there
The front panel connectors are mainly,
  • harddisk activity connector
  • power switch connector
  • reset switch connector
  • power LED connector
  • speakers connector
  • USB connector
Harddisk activity connector
This normally comes red in colour and is labeled as HDD-LED
Power switch connector
This comes green in colour and is labeled as POWER-SW
Reset switch connector
This usually comes grey in colour and is labeled as RST-SW
Power LED connector
This is usually green in colour and is labled as PWR-LED
Speakers connector
This speaker will give different beep sounds during boot to tell the user if there is any errors. It occupies 4 pins, however only 2 is important for the function. Be sure to connect the red coloured cable to the positive polarity and the black to the negative.

PC will not power up

Check that the ram memory hasn't come unseated from the mobo. If you are using an above board video card also check that it is properly seated as well.

The clicking noise from the PSU is kinda perplexing though...

Pc will not power on .Press main power button on the front of the server, all fans work and front Disk LED glows yellow. Power LED at rear glows green but LED on the front(light bulb symbol) not lit....

Open the case and check the connection between the case power button and the motherboard. unplug that connection and short out the pins on the mb. The computer should start up. If it doesn't, there is something wrong with the mobo. If it does, there is something wrong with the switch, or the connector wasn't tight.
