SOURCE: 1/3 hp drill press motor runs hot and very slow.

Look instead at the motor and drill post bearings. Remove the belt to see if the motor runs correctly with no load. If it still hums and gets hot, check that the motor itself turns freely (when off). If the motor seems to be ok, turn the driven pulley by hand--it should also turn freely. The capacitor is usually a starting assist, not running. To test, wrap a small rope several turns (when pulled must turn in the normal direction) around the small motor pulley and pull smartly while turning the motor on. If it now comes up to speed, the capacitor has lost capacitance. Electronic parts suppliers like Jameco or Mouser have such items.

SOURCE: ryobi spare parts

Hi there,

Unless you have the part in hand, which you could take to a specialized machinery or spring supplier to see if they could match it up, the only other way to get the correct part is to contact ryobi direct and talk to their parts department. They will be able to tell you the part number, and if available, send you one out direct from their warehouses.

Good Luck!

Testimonial: "Thank you very much for taking time to help! I have phoned Bunnings who I think are now the only suppliers of Ryobi in AU who are sending a spare. "

I would go to Dewaltservicenet.com and you can download a breakdown and also user manual for this tool with information about the set up and belt assembly, the breakdown would show you how everything is supposed to go in the pulley section. L et me know if you need further help

Value of Champion machine tools heavy duty drill press, 5 speeds-model#F001,capacity-chuck 5/8th" spindal JT #3 serial#103447

There are a great many similar items on the market these days at a variety of prices and in spite of the claims very few are truly heavy duty - most are copies of copies from a few manufacturers (usually China) and are label engineered and best suited to the home workshop and occasional user.

A true heavy duty version is very different - very much heavier and with a rack-and-pinion operated tiltable table, a more powerful continuous rated motor and many refinements that suits the machine to continuous workshop use. Such a machine as this would usually cost at least double and most commonly three, four or five times of the common imported type.

The first type has little value as a used machine other than what cash a purchaser can be persuaded to pay for it, in fact if it is bought with the usual accessories; a set of T bolts, a good machine vice and a collection of Morse taper drill bits, the price would more than double, the accessories being worth more than the pillar drill.

The industrial rated tool in good condition does retain a good used value but again it is worth only what the market will pay.

I suggest you peruse a variety of tool catalogues.
