Question about Canon HG10 HD AVCHD HD Camcorder

Uploading video from Canon HG10 HD 40GB

So I just picked up one of these canon HG10 HD video cameras, went on tour, got a bunch of great video, but now cant seem to figure out how to tranfser them directly to our mac laptops.

we bought a small USB to big USB which sent files not recognized by the computer. I realize that this may be a softwear thing, but it also seems to me that when transfering video youd want to use firwire anyways.
So I went out and picked up a 4pin Firewire to 6pin firwire. Only problem is the camera doesnt seem to have a firewire out. the 4pin almost fits into the component out but not quite(plus i dont even know what the component out is for anyhow.)
The last port we havent a cable for is the HDMI out. Could this be our out.

thanks.

Most video camera connect to Macs without ANY special drivers or software.... they just work. ... the same holds true for 99% of the digital cameras out there - just plug them in and they download to iPhoto. Video goes right to iMovie. USB is fine.

I CAN HELP ON PARTS OF YOUR PROBLEM. FIRST, MOST CAMERAS DOWNLOAD IMAGES THAT ARE COMPATIBLE TO WINDOWS SYSTEMS, NOT MACS. FOR DOWNLOADING TO A MAC I'M AFRAID YOU'LL HAVE TO GO TO THE MAC WEBSITE. I'M A WINDOWS VISTA USER.
AS FAR AS THE HDMI PORT, THAT PORT IS AN OUTPUT PORT TO CONNECT TO A HIGH DEF. TV. YOU DO NOT WANT TO FORCE ANY CABLES INTO YOUR CAMERA ETC. CONSULT THE CANON WEBSITE FOR INFORMATION ON DOWNLOADING TO MACS. A STANDARD USB CONNECTION SHOULD BE FINE TO DOWNLOAD. I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME. SORRY I'M NOT UP ON MACS, BUT I'VE BEEN WITH WINDOWS SINCE WIN3.1 OR EARLIER. GOOD LUCK!

My Sony Multi-Function DVD Recorder does not recognize my Canon HG10 USB connection, for creating a DVD directly from the Canon HDD. Is there a work around?

You could put it on your computer and use an editing software and then burn it on to a DVD.
For basic editing softwares: Windows has Movie Maker and Apple has iMovie.
Hope this helps.

Can i replace the harddrive with a SSD ? What kind of HDD does it have ?

YES. The drive is a 1.8" ZIF interface disk. The one that came in your camera is a 40GB rotational disk and it can be replaced by another hard disk (larger capacity if you want) or an ZIF interface SSD.

Here is a link to a video showing how to do this.

Can't find clips when connected to pc

The camera needs to be connected to the wall socket before you connect it to the pc. After-wards, connect the usb cable and start the camera in play mode. I don't know in MAC, but a windows PC will see the camera as an usual usb memory stick.
The video files are located in the STREAM folder from the drive.

I hope that helps.

Where can buy replacement DC power coupler for

Ebay seems the cheapest option - plenty of replacement spares for HG10.
Otherwise you can try ordering direct from Canon spares, but chances are it will be expensive.
Good luck,
