Uploading video from Canon HG10 HD 40GB

so I just picked up one of these canon HG10 HD video cameras, went on tour, got a bunch of great video, but now cant seem to figure out how to tranfser them directly to our mac laptops.

we bought a small USB to big USB which sent files not recognized by the computer. I realize that this may be a softwear thing, but it also seems to me that when transfering video youd want to use firwire anyways.
So I went out and picked up a 4pin Firewire to 6pin firwire. Only problem is the camera doesnt seem to have a firewire out. the 4pin almost fits into the component out but not quite(plus i dont even know what the component out is for anyhow.)
The last port we havent a cable for is the HDMI out. Could this be our out.
