Problem with battery on Acer Travelmate 4060

The problem with my Acer Travelmate: when the battery is connected(with or without AC power on), the laptop freezes on the login screen (I use Windows XP Pro SP3).The keys are useless, the mouse or touchpad also, ant every button on the machine is dead - even the power-button!
On AC power only, without the battery connected, the laptop works just fine. When I try to connect the battery after the OS started, the CPU soon goes at 100% and stops every system.
The machine works fine in Safe Mode, though, with battery... I tried system restore, but it didn't help.
Does anybody have an idea what might be wrong?

I have that same problem when I take out the battery the mouse and keyboard works fine. I know it's not the hard drive because I did a low level format and reinstalled xp back on the machine. In fact when I took the battery off even the driver for the mouse finally showed up at the bottom on the task bar and that is the first time I saw it showing up. Really weird.

Hey guys, had the same problem with acer TM4060 and I thought it was a driver conflict or maybe sp3-- I found a post somewhere and suggested disabling battery in device manager. So I tryed it and rebooted and like magic my keyboard and touchpad worked fine again. Go figure, only thing now is no status on battery in my tray. Maybe I can find a widget to get battery status.

There are probably some corrupt files on the harddrive or there is damage on the hard drive. I would suggest to try using the windows setup cd or sony recovery cd to restore the system back to normal, if the problem is not solved by that then you most likely have a hardware problem which is most likely in the harddrive, might have to replace it, they don't cost much.

if you press f8 in start up to get the advanced startup menu, select safe mode.

start in safe mode and login

then

press start -> now run -> type in Cmd -> Type in the shell window -> chkdsk /F /X /R C:
if asked select Y to perform the operation on next start up.

see if the problem is solved.

  • It is most likely a problem in the install / windows, reinstall as I said earlyer should fix the problem. I've seen this 100% cpu useage problem in few HP laptops and reinstall solved the problem back then.

The initial battery of my Acer Travelmate 2480 packed up and I ordered and installed a new one. However, the laptop remains on "AC Only" power and the battery is not charged, giving a...

RTFM You can download the manual by googling "acer travelmate 2480 manual" (without the quotes). Or just click here

According to the Acer manual:

"Conditioning a new battery pack
Before you use a battery pack for the first time, there is a
"conditioning" process that you should follow:
1 Insert the new battery without turning the computer on.
2 Connect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery.
3 Disconnect the AC adapter.
4 Turn on the computer and operate using battery power.
5 Fully deplete the battery until the battery-low warning appears.
6 Reconnect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery again.

Follow these steps again until the battery has been charged and
discharged three times.
Use this conditioning process for all new batteries, or if a battery hasn't
been used for a long time. If the computer is to be stored for more
than two weeks, you are advised to remove the battery pack from the
unit.

Warning: Do not expose battery packs to temperatures below 0°C
(32°F) or above 60°C (140°F). Extreme temperatures may adversely
affect the battery pack.

By following the battery conditioning process you condition your
battery to accept the maximum possible charge. Failure to follow this
procedure will prevent you from obtaining the maximum battery
charge, and will also shorten the effective lifespan of the battery.
In addition, the useful lifespan of the battery is adversely affected by
the following usage patterns:
• Using the computer on constant AC power with the battery
inserted. If you want to use constant AC power, you are advised to
remove the battery pack after it is fully charged.
• Not discharging and recharging the battery to its extremes, as
described above.
• Frequent use; the more you use the battery, the faster it will reach
the end of its effective life. A standard computer battery has a life
span of about 500 charges."

I have a travelmate 4060 laptop and I just replaced the battery through best buy with a generic one that was compatible. It is always saying 23% full. How do I charge this battery?thank you

1)Reason:
a.The battery has no voltage.
b.There is problem with charger, as it has no output electric current.
c.Low charging efficiency due to external cause.
2)Solutions:
a.Test whether the charger has voltage and output electric current or not.
b.Check if the charger is well contacted with battery.
c.Activate the battery with voltage and current 1.5 time higher then the highest ones of battery. (Use this method only when the battery can't be charged.)

Have an acer travelmate 4060 would like to upgrade the hard disk to 160 gb Ihad buy a samsum hard disk but it looks like it is not compatible......any sugestions??

Acer TravelMate 4060

the new 160GB Samsung HM160HC or compatible works ok by default only without CD or DVD drive.

The solution is setting the CD drive in master (merge the contact 45 with 47) and the HDD must set slave.

All works OK. any Questions by e-mail: pn_dm@mail.ru

Acer Travelmate 4060. Dead. Flashes power/battery led once when I hit the power button then nothing

Try removing the battery and plugging the machine in as if you were going to charge it, then try starting it up.

If it doesn't start up, check the connections on the adapter. If everything looks fine then theres a possibility that you have a broken adapter.

Acer travelmate does not battery charge but pwr jack, battery ok

First power drain your system take the battery out unplug the acadapter and then push the power button on the laptop and keep it pressed for 2 mins without connecting any power souce this will drain the static power from the syteme after few mins connect the battery first and then connect the ac adapter that should take care of the issue.

Battery status LED blinkings amber

Try removing the power cable and battery, while these are removed press and hold the power button on the laptop for 30 seconds. this is called a hard reset, what it does is drains any residual power in the laptop. if this does not work, that means there is an issue with the motherboard. to have it sent in would cost about $398, give or take.

Having problems with my acer travelmate 4060

Get virus scanner/remover, and then try restore to a date when the computer was in full working order. If that does not work, try to backup valuable data files before original default factory settings, and get model-specific drivers etc from Acer and Microsoft websites.
