Question about LaCie BRICK (301063U) 300 GB Hard Drive

Brick connection is not registering

Okay, I've had this brick for 4 months so far and since i have had it i haven't had any major problems with the product. Until tonight that is, I left my sister in my room for at least an hour and when i came back she had moved the computer along with the brick from one location to another and the brick was hanging from it's cord on the floor. I did not think it was a big deal until, i attempted to access the files that were on the brick but to no avail. A message would pop up saying; "The drive or network connection that the 'shortcut to LACIE (E).lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again." Even though the product is plugged in! I tried to take it apart and fix it my self but i cannot see any problems, but i also can't actuaaly get into the hardrive itself. Plus every five seconds there is a clicking sound from the inside of the drive. A friend told me to get RMA or something, but i don't know how. If anyone can help me I would really apperciate it. Thanks for your time.

It sounds like that brick fell. All bets are off when a hard drive falls or receives shock. Put your ear to it and see if it is making any strange sounds.

you can purchased an external usb case from I would first take the hard drive out so you can identify whether you need a SATA to usb hard drive or IDE to usb harddrive. Connect the hard drive in and see if it will power up.

I have Problem with the Transcend StoreJet 2.5 120 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive.
I didnot register it on time i was presented this nice device..
because it was working ok .when i just connect it to LapTop.
NOW..After almost 2 years .it s became not RECOGNISED BY MY pc.
And i cant find any driver for it.I have all my important documents in Transcend.
WHat can i do.friends.. Any help?

Is the PC you've used before is the operating system is windows Xp? If you've using windows Xp before then you've plug it in a windows 7 Operating system, it means your hard disc have no problem the operating system of your PC is different than before. Try to plug it in a windows Xp operating system then recover it in there then format it in a windows 7 operating system then, the windows Xp and windows 7 try to make a network place in the connection then share the hard disc files that you've recovered then copy and paste it in the newly format hard drive that formated in a windows 7 operating system.

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Let me know if you need further assistance. Hard drive is not powering up any longer

I think so, As far as i understand, your pc is not powering on unless you dont plug in you hard drive right?Check wether it is ATA, or Serial ATA (SATA)?
THE problem is circuit, and i think you hard drive is JUNK!
(ATA)..1- Take a gd look at the drive, where you plug in the power cable, and make sure the 4 tubes are far enought.
2- Replace the IDE cable.
(SATA).. 0- Replace the cable.

Plug it into a friend's computer (in the same cables as his main drive) (Turn the system off and pull the plug out first!) Tell us if it works there.

Data loss happens all the time for various reasons. That's why you need to learn how to use a CD burning program to transfer the pictures to CD's. If you don't want to burn often, get yourself a 16GB little flash drive at least.

Seagate 500 external hardrive

It could be that the PCB or the connection within the external casing has a problem.

Try disassembling it and putting the Hard Disk into another external case to see if the disk is okay, if it is then viola! you have your data back.
