Sounds like you need a new power supply. If you have the make and model of the PC I can help you with the replacement.

Unplug it and try holding in the power button for up to 60 seconds to discharge it. Try turning it on. You may have to hold the power button if for a few seconds when you turn it on. If it still doesn't work you may need a new power supply.

Not working

1. Check the power supply optput plugs for the drives with a multimeter when the computer is turned on. If you do not see voltage levels then you may need a new power supply. Keep in mind the black wire is ground and red and yellow wires are hot.
2. Try using a different power cord .
3. Ensure all plug in cards are seated properly as a badly seated card can short out the system. Unplug all but the video card and power up the computer. If it powers up then power down and add one card at a time repeating the power up procedure. If after plugging in a card the system refuses to power up, remove the last card instaqlled and buy a replacement card .

When I boot up my pc Iget a black screen with the message keyboard failure. f8 will not work to get me to safe mode

You didn't specify if this was a USB keyboard or not. Power everything down and unplug the power cords.

Check that the keyboard is properly plugged in. If it IS a USB keyboard you can try a different USB port. Plug in and power up.

If that doesn't work try a different keyboard. You might need a new one.

Tower switch dose not turn on.i took out power wire from the wall plug when i went to trip 5 weeks ago

Make sure the power cord is securly plugged into the Power Supply Unit in the back of the PC and also in the wall outlet. Look for a switch by the cord plug on the pc that will have a straight line and a circle on it. Make sure it's switched to the ON position (straight line). Try and turn on your pc.

If this does not work still, try a different AC outlet on another wall or in another room. Also try a different power cord for the PC. If none of these work and your machine will still not start up or you don't hear any fans going when you press the button, it might be a bad Power Supply Unit (PSU). I have seen PSU's blow out just by plugging or unplugging the power cord because it can create a spark. If you have a bad PSU, you will need to contact someone local to replace it or you can take your unit to a Best Buy or local computer store and have them give you a price on a new PSU.

No electric power to the computer, it won't turn on

Some things to try (some may sound obvious - you might want to try them anyway)

  1. A new power cord.
  2. A different power strip (if using one)
  3. A different outlet.
If not, it probably means either the switch to power it on is broken, or your power supply is dead. Both are cheap to fix.

Mi computer doesn't work anymore. It's an HP tx1220. My warranty has expired and a technician has told me that probably it was the mother board. What can I do?

Ok what do you mean by doesn’t work?
No power? no lights? dead?

Have you tried a different power cord?
I ask this because of these things

  • Laptop power cords can just give out without warning

  • And just because the green light on the power cord is lit does not mean it is putting out enough power or any at all

  • And even if you test the power cord and it reads the correct voltage does not mean it is still putting out enough amperage to handle a load (like powering up the computer) Of course that is extremely rare but I have seen that happen before

  • Before giving up hope I would try borrowing another cord from someone with an HP laptop or one of those I-GO laptop cords with the changeable tips or something or even better yet try your power cord on a different laptop and if the other laptop turns on .then well I am sorry

NOTE: if your power cord has a little green light on it and that light goes dim or starts flashing as soon as you plug it into the laptop then that is a very good indication (9 times out of 10) that your motherboard has gone bad and shorted out somewhere.

But there are too many possibilities of what could be wrong with out more info

When you plug it in do any lights on the computer come on at all?

I wouldn’t give up all hope yet .. that is a pretty nice little computer and worth trying to figure it out.

System turns on however hard drive will not cycle nor will mouse or key board activate

Turn power off and unplug power from computer.
Unplug printers,backup drives and speakers.
Open case and unplug power supply from the board.
plug power cord back in press the power button.
Of course nothing will happen.
unplug power cord again.
plug power supply back into the board.
plug power cord backup and press power switch.
If nothing happens unplug power cord again.
pull out your memory sticks and plug cord back in and press power button.
Of course not much will happen.
But really something is happening to your computer so continue.
Pull power cord and replace memory sticks.
replace power cord and press power switch.
Continue this pulling out pci cards one at a time until you find out what the problem might be.
Try different keyboards and mice too.
Good Luck

My PC won't power on.

First, check all connections insid the computer. then, depending on your skill level and warranty status, you can try the following:
Remove or disconnect all accessories from the pc (Hard drive, floppy, cd/dvd roms and accessory cards) Then see if it will turn on. If yes, the replace the items one by one unrtil it fails.
If no, then you must either try a different (known good) power supply on your motherboard. (you can also see if your power supply powers a known good motherboard).
If not, the you motherboard is likey faulty.

How old is your computer? Did you recently have a power outage or anything? Most the time if a computer won't turn on, something in it went bad OR an outlet is bad. Try this:

1. Make sure that the power switch is on, the switch in the back (on the power supply itself) is turned on, and everything along those lines is functioning.
2. If that doesn't work, and it will not power on AT ALL, make sure the cords are plugged firmly in place, including the surge protector and/or the power cord itself.
3. Try resetting the surge suppressor and/or plug the computer into a different outlet in the surge suppressor. Try other items in that surge suppressor (or even in the wall outlet, if that's what you're plugged into) to make sure that the outlet itself is working.
4. If your computer is plugged directly into a working wall or surge suppressor outlet, try a different power cord.
5. If your surge suppressor works, your wall outlet has power to it, and you are using a known-good power cord in the computer, you will have to go into more in-depth investigation as something inside the computer likely went bad. It could be the video card, motherboard, CPU fan, power button, or the power supply itself. Start by testing the video card and the power supply by (one at a time) swapping out a known-good component for the one you suspect may be bad. If it won't turn on after that, try swapping out the next and try it again. If it still will not work, it could be something more serious such as the motherboard or power button.

Good luck!

it could be a bad power supply or a bad motherboard. Other problems might cause issues, such as a bad video card.
