Question about Samsung SyncMaster 940MW 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Samsung Synchmaster 940MW - Will no longer power up.

There's only two circuit boards inside - power and main board. I think the power board is shot. Couple of electrolytic capacitors look to be swollen, leaking. Is there a place where I can buy a new module or get this one repaired?

Thanks a bunch!!

On and off switch not working

Hello Michael,

The most common problem with the Samsung 940MW units that don't turn on is a failure of the power supply board. There are parts called capacitors that fail which in turn causes the power supply to not startup correctly so the monitor never powers up. Here is a link to a repair guide that should get you back watching tv and using the monitor in no time.

17'' samsung synchmaster 794MG model display but screen shrinks from all sides ,After few seconds display becomes very small just about in single inch size .

hit your MONITOR lightly on left side or right side or on top & then observe will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some monitors on main board ( also on CRT circuit board ) at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or abnormal width, etc ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears for some solution is ......monitor main board & CRT circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting monitor lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again ................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other contact good monitor service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - ( computers, laptop, printers, etc )..............

The screen turns off after a long period of use and wont turn back on until having been unplugged for an extended period of time. Do you think this is an overheating malfunction (although it does not...

ferraric, You're halfway there! Now all you need to do is find the "THERMALLY INTERMITTANT" and "COLD/FROSTED LOOKING" solder joint on the power supply (switch-mode-power-supply) printed circuit board. Check all the larger and more weighty components first, including power transistors. I'm sure that the web has some pic's of what they look like! The cause of them going BAD is what is known as Thermal cycling! Hot to cold, Hot to cold. You may need a magnifying glass or an inspection microscope to view your printed circuit board! Visit YOUTUBE for disassembly vids and you better have a digital cam to document the teardown BEFORE removing plugs from board-mounted connectors. Good luck! louie12fix or aka 12fix louie

Samsung 940MW monitor will not cut on. Green LED flashes only

Most likely it is a set of bad caps on the power board. If you are okay at soldering to do the following with the unit unplugged:
Remove the back cover:
  • Remove the 4 screws that supports the stand and slide it out the bottom.
  • Remove the 3 screws along the bottom of the back plate
  • Use a small flat blade screwdriver or plastic wedge (less risk of damage with wedge) to press on the release tabs around the sides.
  • When removing the cover make note of the antennae connection since you will have to work around this

Remove metal cover over circuit boards:
  • Remove 8 (if I remember correctly)screws securing the metal case. Do not remove the screws securing the LCD panel to the frame

Inspect the power board:
  • Look towards the top of the board for capacitors that have a bulge or brown "gunk" on them. If you have some that are this way this is most likely the problem.
Here's a picture of 4 bad caps on a 940mw. Once I replaced the caps the panel works great and had the same issue as yours.
