Question about Hunter 20537 / 20538 The Vista Iron Ceiling Fan

Open Question

Unable to remove retainer ring on Hunter fan, 23269-380, Type 2.

The upper retainer ring is metal and does not have screws nor dimples and I'm unable to squeeze it in any way. Applying pressure and attempting to rotate the retainer ring in either direction causes the whole fan to try to rotate in the same direction.
Thanks for your help.

Okay. Turn off circuit breaker. Take the bottom off the fan. Mark how the wires are connected. Remove switch by unscrewing the sleeve you mentioned. Take the switch to Home Depot (or the like) -- buy a replacement.

If you have to turn the breaker back on during this process, make sure you have a wire nut over the end of each of the loose wires you disconnected from the switch.

After you take the switch out, you'll know how to reinstall it, so I won't go thru that.

SOURCE: Hunter ceiling fan (model no. 25736) and light not starting

Home Depot sells universal remote systems (transmitter and receiver) for around $30 (in Delaware & Pennsylvania) -- don't know price in Chicago).

I'd just replace it. Hunter may be correct that they are the only source for the receiver, but if you get a new transmitter as well, you don't need their receiver. The labor is the same either way.

Unfortunately, you either have a faulty reciever or remote. A replacement will cost $30-$40 at homedepot2.gif. And it doesn't matter which is faulty because you can't purchase them seperately anyhow.

I need to remove my hunter louden flush mount ceiling fan. There are no screws.

Good choice getting rid of that fan. The housing probably twist off. Could also have a ring at top next to ceiling that covers the screws at top. Just twist & pull down.

Page 8 of the model 20761 Hunter ceiling fan shows how to remove the canopy trim ring. Ours had double stick tape holding the brushed nickel to a plastic trim ring. Dropped it, then squeezed the plastic ring.

Cant remove the fan from the ceiling and the top ring wont turn

The top skinny ring that is made of plastic is the one that needs to turn. The metal bell shaped piece does not turn. My plastic ring would not turn either. I took a flat blade screwdriver and stuck it between the plastic ring and metal bell shaped piece. I gently pryed the plastic ring away from the bell shaped piece. The plastic ring has 4 screws that hold it in place, they are at the 8 oclock, 10 oclock, 2 and 4 oclock positions. The ring has to be turned counter-clockwise when looking up at the fan from underneath. Once the ring is off take the 4 screws out and the fan will come down.

Access for disassembly

the vanity ring usuallu comes off one of two ways.

It may be held on with 1 or 2 small screws. When you loosen the screws you can turn the ring a little bit and it comes off. Sometimes you have to remove the screws and the ring will come off.

The 2nd method requires turning the ring counterclockwise and it comes off. If this is the way yours comes off, you can usually see 2 dimples on the top of the ring that fit into matching slots.
