The ports will need to be opened in your router, you can also try enabling DMZ

Read this microsoft page, it tells you the ports that need to be forwarded on the router
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874

Please read the documentation that came with your router to figure out how to enable port forwarding, if you don't have a hard copy of a user manual, it should be included on a CD and its also available online.

Thank you,
I will fix it!!

XBOX 360 strict NAT problem

Make sure you also open the ports on your router. IF you have all the appropriate ports open and still have strict NAT, it's more than likely your ISP and you should give them a call.

How do i change my xbox nat settings from strict to open

Those are actually the settings in the router, not the 360. You need to open the ports for the 360 on the router itself. Look at the router manufacturers website for more info on how to accomplish this

Nat is set to strict, wanting to set it to open

To set open the NAT for your Xbox you need to open certain ports using your routers interface.
This website gives you a list of ports needed for Xbox live
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874
You can also use http://portforward.com/ to find out how to open the ports on your router.

This should solve your problem

For most devices that use NAT, port forwarding is not required to connect to Xbox Live. This is especially true if you use an Xbox Live certified device. Sometimes, you may have to configure port settings on a non Xbox Live certified router or gateway.

If there is a firewall device between the Xbox console and the network device, you may have to configure the firewall to enable communication on specific network ports. If the NAT status in the Network Status area of the Dashboard is "moderate" or "strict," you may have to configure port settings.

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
 UDP 88
 UDP 3074
 TCP 3074

To open the ports on your router see this handy website here,

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

which gives you a step by step guide.

Before opening the ports you must give your Xbox 360 a static IP address (manual) be sure to use an IP address that no other item on your network is using and is fairly high up in your range, for example if your router's address is 192.168.0.1 then you should use something like 192.168.10 for your Xbox 360.

You can also enable DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on your router, which will open up all the ports to your Xbox 360, however NEVER use this on a PC's IP, see your router's manual on how to do this.

Once the correct ports are open for your Xbox 360, then your NAT should say open.

Xbox Live (Xbox 360) Strict NAT PROBLEM!

You can hook it up to your computer where the ethernet connection is then plug in your internet through USB and if it still doesn't work then it is most likely a problem with your computer's security at that point. You can also call 1-800-MYXBOX for technical support and every time i have called they have been pretty good and they were also American every time so they were easy to understand.

Nat / strict

First, why are you connecting to your laptop? Second, reset your modem and router. I doubt you need to open ports that are not normally open...but if you think you need to do more, access the router and open the ports manually.
