Question about Sony KP-65WV600 65" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Cloudy Blue Color Covering Whole Screen

When tv is first turned on the picture is fine but after a few seconds the whole screen becomes a blue covering the whole picture. If tv is turned off and turned on a few seconds later the picture comes on then gradually becomes blue and covers the whole screen like a thick fog.

mine will turn blue then shutoff and the standby lite will flash 7 times. If it was a bulb problem, then it would either work or not work. I don't know enough about it to troubleshoot it.

ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis

TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505

FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking
selfdiagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

    SEVEN Blinks---High voltage
shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.

I think its time for sony to face a claas action, they do not supply parts in less than 7 years, and the unit should not have been sold so $high, they should buy them back, that is the best solution

Re: Toshiba 65 in Cinema Series - 12 years old. Color Separation. Green bow at top center of screen, red and blue double images tilting upwards toward sides. Sometimes clears unassisted after set has...

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Vertical color scan has an open or short..............it could also be a ground problem with in the V-color scan circuits...

If you tap the tv and the color bar is gone then its a ground problem with in those circuits above. Needs a solder re-flow and check the condition of ribbon cables.

Green picture only

The projection TV has 3 guns RED GREEN BLUE. In your case the red and the blue guns are gone. So you are getting the green color screen. You got to replace the picture tube.

Blue screen

The blue picture tube has gone bad. Sadly they are no longer availible for that unit. But the blue tube assembly can be sent back to a company called Video Display. They rebuild the tube for a very reasonable price. The hitch is that it takes a professional tv tech to reinstall and align the rebuilt tube. Most respectable shops will do this work but the repair is spendy. Usually around $450 to $500 or more.

Picture comes on then fades to blue

Check the info from this website to see if you are able to fix your TV. You should turn the blue screen control down slightly counterclockwise. If that did not work, then more likely you have a video amplifier IC defective or a blue CRT.

FADING TO BLUE SCREEN

Sounds like you have a problem with the blue gun in your picture tube or its drive circuit. You might remove the back cover and gently tap on the neck of the picture tube using a plastic screwdriver handle while watching the screen in a mirrow. If the picture flashes back on or on and off then the picture tube is the problem. If this is a projection tv you have three separate tubes : red, green & blue. you'd need to tap the blut one.Gently!!!! Stargazer

KEEP FADING TO BRIGHT BLUE SCREEN

I'm about 90% sure it is the blue picture tube developing an intermittent heater to cathode short. I'm surprised the set isn't shutting down shortly after this happens. A service call will tell you for sure as it could also be a bad solder connection causing a similar symptom. My own procedure to check it out would be to GENTLY tap the neck of the suspected picture tube with a screwdriver handle to see if I could get it to come and go (Or get out my CRT tester and measure it with the power off). Obviously by holding the screwdriver blade you don't want to accidently short anything out as there is about 33,000 volts a few inches away from where I would be tapping. Nuff Said.
