Acer Aspire One not starting

After an entire evening's work without ever turning the laptop off, I restarted it. However, on restarting the computer stays blank. The green light on the power button does turn on, but it looks like the OS (Windows XP) does not start. Nothing appears on the screen. You can hear the machine buzzing slightly. Tried several times but always gives the same result. What can it be?

The battery has already been removed, in fact I work on adapter most of the time, without the battery. The problem occurs while running on adapter.
How does one reset the Ram?

Mine also just crapped out today. Ill try the power without battery. This ACER has been a pain. It only finds the boot device half the time and now this......all inside 2 1/2 months of ownership :(

Mine too just packed in! have tried removing the battery and using just the adapter with no joy. The green light is coming on and the fan is running but no screen and no HHD light flashing.

i have the exact same problem

  • thmchew Dec 24, 2008

I also have the exact same symptoms - switches on but no video output and the cpu fan has some variable wirrr'ing sounds. This is the second time that it has happened now. The first time, I reported it to Acer and they repaired it but told me that they did not do anything to the laptop but it started working again when it was returned. I asked multiple times for what work was done and they were adamant that there was no problem.
Maybe its our power supplies - Acer support asks for the power supply and battery to be left out of what is sent for repair - just the laptop.

Had another black-screen-of-death on my aspire one D150 and this time it was NOT the BIOS but a bad stick of RAM. Once I replaced it, it just started immediately. Very weird symptoms for a memory dimm problem.

Here's the link I use to get the Acer aspire one BIOS files and a procedure on creating a bootable flash disk with appropriate files for flashing the a150's BIOS when it get this problem. I've had to use it 6 or 7 times now. It similar to solution #1 in this forum but doesn't tell you where to get the files you need.

Acer Aspire 5733 Wireless connection lost

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

hope this helps

Factory reset without using a disk and ALT + F10 doesnt work

his MIGHT work:

1. Click "Start," "Turn Off Computer" and then "Restart", if it is on. If your computer is off, turn it on by pressing the power button above the keyboard.
2. Press the "F2" function key on your computer's keyboard to enter the BIOS utility.
3. Use the laptop's right arrow key to scroll to "Main." Confirm that the "D2D Recovery" is "Enabled." If the D2D option is "Disabled," scroll down to the option using the down arrow key. Press "Enter" to change the option to "Enabled."
4. Use the laptop's right arrow key to scroll to "Exit." The "Exit Saving Changes" option will be highlighted. Press "Enter" to save the settings and exit the BIOS utility. Your Acer Aspire will restart.

Stuck at the Configurating updates page

alright, whenever you restart the computer press "F8" key again and again . you will get the option safe mode. select the safe mode option and press enter key. login with your user account and click on start control panel and you will get two option over there" security center" or automatic update" click on security center or automatic update and select the option "notify me but don't download update for me" and restart the computer in normal mode. if you still get the same problem then choose the the third option "turn off automatic updats" and restart the computer. you should be able to work on your computer.

thanks and best of luck.

try running in safe mode.
if it runs then it can be a startup program issue , (click /start run / type msconfig and turn off all startup group items)
if not then at what point does it stop at what driver and reboots.
