Question about Palm TX Handheld

1 Answer

Palm TX: Digitizer problems - can't use all functions; i.e.all those on bottom row of screen. Soft reset and touch-screen alinement exercise doesn't seem to work.

In general, the digitizer works fine. But at the very bottom of the screen, the touch registers about 1/4" high. So all the icons along the bottom are inaccessible; tapping on them instead registers as a tap on whatever is just above them. Anywhere else on the screen, a tap is entirely precise.

I have the same problem. Now how do I repair it?

After an endless looping restart and having to hard reboot the device, it came back, I restore data from computer and restart; then everything came except the inferior part of the digitizer. No icons nor place to write the graffitti

I have this same problem -- not only the bottom 1/4" of screen, but also the rightmost 1/4", when I'm in screen rotate mode is nearly unaccessible. The vast majority of the screen is accessible, but as I near these edges, I'm unable to reach that edge.

I followed dssails advice, a little dubiously at first, and that did work for me; we'll see if it drifts. I simply recalibrated the digitizer, but tapped the targets biased to the center of the screen (i.e. not the bullseye of the target, but two rings inward closer to the center of the screen.) I did this for the lower right target and the upper left target, then tapped bullseye in the center. I'm working fine now.

I developed the same problem after owning my TX for about a year and a half. I found an acceptable solution by experimenting with the digitizer. Instead of tapping the very center of the bullseye, I tapped off center until I found an acceptable setting where accessing functions anywhere on the screen would work for me.

Calibrating touch screen never ends. just keeps on displaying targets, I just keep tapping

The Palm TX is notorious for digitizer failure which is what it sounds like you have. The are 3rd party solutions such as power digi which you can google. However it seems that the best method will be to replace the digitizer with a glass one. The plastic digitizer that Palm originally installed is not very reliable over time. There is a seller on e-bay that specializes in this and other Palm repairs. I believe it's called itsnotthere. You can also try to do it yourself. There are numerous demos on the internet that show how to do this if you are handy. Hope this helps.

This happens a lot with Palm digitizers. The only permanent solution is replace the plastic digitizer with an upgraded glass type. Before considering that, see if removing screen protector helps. (yeah, didn't think so. Worth a try!) Try Powerdigi, a better calibration program. Get it from
It worked for me.

My TX's Top Left quadrant of the touch screen has lost "sensitivity" but generally the whole screen is out of calibration.

have you tried using the built in calibration function on your phone? calibrate it again and again untill you can touch each point just once. if this doesnt work you may have damaged that part of the digitizer and you will have to replace the screen.

Palm Tungsten E/E2 digitizer - fragile?

Palm one is in trouble because of problems like this. They don't work on it but you can buy parts to try it yourself. I never had the problem myself but similar conditions. I do windows based units now.

Cannot top the bottom of the screen

It is an issue with the Grafitti  on the device, you can try a Hard reset on the device.

Touch Screen does not work at all

My touchscreen was acting batty, not responding where I was touching. The solution for me was to:
1. remove my screen protector
2. Take a piece of paper, fold it in half, and scoop under the lip the case where it holds the touchscreen in to fish out debris that were distorting how the digitizer recorded.
