    Hey, thanks for responding. After some looking around I found how to adjust the brightness and contrast. I don't know if I'll be able to adjust the display temp though. I'm running XP with service pack 3. Have a great day

Ok my friend, right-click on the desktop and select the properties tab then go to display settings/settings and adjust your resolution to 1024x768 click apply and save, you should now have a decent display

Hello, I have a problem with hp pavilion dv

Try lowering your display settings when it is hooked up to the external monitor. Then try the laptop screen again.
Right click an open area of the desktop, select properties, click the display tab. In the lower left of the box there is a settings slider, try lowering the settings and see if it gets better.

Battery with HP Pavillion DV5000 won't work. Do I need to replace the battery or is there a battery charger I could use to recharge the battery? Dianne

You can order a power cable online or pick one up at your local computer store. They should run between $80-150. The battery itself is very expensive to purchase but is rechargeable.

Hp laptop black screen but running in background

I have to know if you changed the display resolution settings. If so, boot the laptop to safe mode (tap the F8 key after you turn it on). Go to Start > Control Panel > Display and select the settings tab. Try changing the resolution to 1024 x 768 and see if that will bring everything back to good order.

Good luck, and feel free to rate this advice.

External monitor looks like the computer is in the safe mode

If XP:
Start->Control Panel->Display->Settings tab->Screen resolution->move marker to "more".

If Vista:
Start->Personalize->Display Settings->Resolution->move marker to "high".

No Display at Boot-up

Here are some suggestions to try. Your display settings may have somehow been changed, or your video card may not be working properly. If it is a display setting problem you can try to attach another known good monitor to the analog video out port of your laptop, turn it on and see what happens. If there is no output to the attached monitor do a hard shut-down by holding down the laptop's power button until it powers off. then turn it on again. With any luck your attached monitor will have a display. You can then go into the "display" settings of the control panel and reset your "settings" tab of the "display" screen. If you are running vista it will be under the "video" screen of the control panel. If this does not work you may need to have the problem assessed by a technician to diagnose your video and screen hardware. Good luck to you.
