My dell compaq presario 500 laptop wont go!!

Does the laptop boot? Sound? Do you see a "ghost Image" in the monitor in a bright light? If so, Could be backlighting, Inverter, on/off switch that shuts the monitor on/off when you open and close the lid. Can you boot to safe mode with networking? If so, Open the Device Manager, Uninstall the Graphics Adapter, reboot, the software will apply a generic driver, If the Graphics adapter has not failed completely.

Please remove the hard disk, mount it as an external device unto a working pc. Backup your files and format in windows. After mount it to ur pc and do fresh installation. U should get it working then replace your backup files again.

Hi, sounds to me that you are having a software problem. When you boot the laptop choose the Last know good configuration option to see if that will correct the problem.

erm, theres not difference with the xp discs, just have different software and drivers pre-encoded into the discs. I'd call up compaq and order some new ones or buy another copy of windows xp

if it is vista enabled . u just have to download the latest version..

When you boot up your computer, press the F8 key until you get some choices such as Safe Mode and Command Prompt. There will be an option for Last Known Good Configuration. Select this and hopefully it will restore your computer settings to the way it was before this happened.

try running it in safemode and if you have recently added any new hardware or software that may be causing your problem uninstall it while you are in safemode.

As the computer boots press F8 to enter safe mode. If this is successful then everything on the screen will look big, ignore that for now. uninstall anything that may be causing the problem. If you have not loaded anything lately, then while in safe mode restore your computer to an earlier date when you know that everything was working okay.

You can do this by going to Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Then choose a date when you know that things were okay and press restore. You computer will restore to the date you selected and it will reboot. If asked to whether you want to start windows normally after the boot then select that option.

Reinstall windows by running the XP or Vista CD. If you don't have windows CD then you may get a retail version from any local computer store.

go to www.windowsreinstall.com for instructions on how to reinstall windows.

Go START-RUN then type DXDIAG and let me know for SYSTEM MODEL'S and i will find right driver for you!
