At school my computer willnot allow me to go to certain websites how do i unlock it

You have to follow the instructions

Unblocking Websites Technique #1: Use Proxy Servers Proxy servers can make your computer access the internet in an anonymous way. They bypass the filters the network administrator has chosen to limit your freedom to explore the world wide web. Quite simply a proxy server is a computer outside the control of the computer network you’re using. Since proxy servers have their own IP address, they can be accessed from your computer. You simply connect to the proxy server and in turn it connects to the blocked website. You can now both read and interact with the blocked website.

If your computer has been restricted from the browser, once you have loaded up your browser, go to the tools tab and change the security settings. Suppose, for some reason, you do not wish to change the settings on your browser, then another option is to download and install another browser. If, for example, your restrictions are on Microsoft Internet Explorer download and install Mozilla Firefox to surf the web.

thanks

How does armstrong do a backup on my computer? do I hjave to download anything?

yes, this will require some type of data replication technology. Most likely this may be a combination of software and or hardware consisting of software, servers, network switches or broadband service upgrades.
All of these factor into how much data you want to backup and what the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) metrics are: - these are standard Disaster Recovery terms.
If your a small shop with basic needs suggest you use flash drives or external harddrives. -Outside services and consultants get real expensive real fast!
Good Luck!

My computer refuses to change a message in Outbox to Send, leaving me with a queue ofunsent messages. I can receive incoming clls, but not send any out returner@ntl world.com

Make sure your SMTP (outgoing) server is set properly.
Are you on your own connection - or using a retail WiFi one?

Normally most WiFi servers reject outgoing mail.
You can GET mail - just not send any.
SMTP is blocked.
Pop3 (incoming) is allowed.

To check that the SMTP is set properly -

Open O/E, and navigate to the following screen....

Tools > Accounts > (Highlight the eMail account you are trying to send from).

Then click Properties

Click SERVERS tab.

It should say...
Outgoing Mail (SMTP): __________________________

In the blank it should say something like: SMTP.ntworld.com
(check with your service provider for the correct SMTP setting)

Thanks for using FixYa - if you need further clarification on your question - please use the "continue with this user" option so we are connected in the future.

Thank You!! :D

What is the difference between URL address and link?

URL stands for Universal Resource Locator. The terms web address or link are refer to a URL. A URL consists of several parts including the protocol to use (http://, ftp://, etc), the server (normally set to default to 'www' if nothing is specified), the domain (i.e., fixya.com), the port to use (optional), the location of the resource, the resource itself, and optional parameters to be passed to the resource.

My laptop has problem getting access to either my webside provider or explorer through my BELKIN ADSL MODEM with wireless G router

Sometimes routers lock up. Try shutting down the router (unplug if there is no on/off), wait 30sec, then turn back on. See if that doesn't help.

Next try changing your DNS settings to something other then the ISP's settings. To change you need to get to the network properties, and change the TCP/IP settings. Best way is to click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL. NETWORK CONNECTIONS. Right click on LOCAL AREA NETWORK (if you are physically connected), and go to properties.

Once there, scroll down to INTERNET PROTOCAL (TCP/IP), highlight it, and click on PROPERTIES.

Here is where you can enter new DNS settings. I use 206.13.29.12, and 206.13.30.12 respectively. You can do a search for DNS servers on the internet and put one in there to see if it solves your issue.

Just a NOTE: Recently ISP's have been updating their systems and DNS servers due to a flaw in the DNS design which is world wide. If your issue of reaching some sites fails and is recent, it could be due to this update process.

Goes offline for no reason

Assuming you have the latest updated spyware removal programmes and anti virus programmes and run a recent scan. It may be that you have some corrupt cookies etc. The first thing to do is clear temp files etc, the best programme for this is a free and spyware free programme called CCleaner which you can download from here and give it a software check and obsolete file cleanup. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
