I have a brother printer mfc 7420. It wont print; it says that the back cover is open. There is only one big door in the back which I used to get a piece of paper that was stuck. It is now firmly closed. Can you please help me?! Thank you. Ben Aguirre aguirre@udel.edu or 302 731 8289

Sensor fails to detect the closed door. Either open the back of teh printer and look for the sensor or try giving it a nice slap on each side first.

Remove all the connections of the device.ust totally off the printer.and tap slowly on all the sides of the printer.it has a sensor that detects the door that sensor is slightly moved from inside and need to be adjusted properly..then just connect the printer and check the error should go.

also if u have a air blower machine blow in the device from all the sides if any thing getting that sensor blocked it will be blown and that sensor can come to its position easily and starts working.

  • fixyy Nov 14, 2008

if that sensor is broken due to any reason it will not detect as there is no sensor.it is very delicate and very thin.shake the device up side down and check if any broken piece falls down.and it could be also possible that it is blocked very firmly so not been able to come at its position.

then servicing your printer is the option remaining as in servicing all the parts of the printer will be opened and cleaned.so it will clear every thing.

When this happens it is just telling you to go through the steps of opening and closing the back cover. The back cover may not be completely closed.

Back cover open, wont print, scan or copy.

All covers must be closed before the unit will operate. Double check that the back door is closed completely and latched on both sides.

Message on brother MFC7420 "back door open" when it's not

Actually, you need to double check the back cover and front cover, open them all to check all paper jam.
Besure to check the back cover, normally all paper jam is from the back.
be sure to close the front cover at the last cover to close.

Printer won't work

What it really means is that another piece of paper is still stuck in the printer, closer to the back. Pull out the paper tray and open the back to look again.
