Blades will not ingage

Pull the switch up to engage blades and nothing happens. belt is ok. john deere L120 Was mowing with my JD 120 and the deck just shut off, I did notice a smell that could have been electrical but was unable to find anything burnt. The back up over ride switch seemed to be working OK.

Mine did that and I had to replace the pto clutch and switch both, take a volt meter and remove the connector to the pto clutch, single yellow wire is positive put pos lead to the wire and the neg lead to chassis ground, turn key, but do not start mower, either sit in the seat or weigh it down, engage pto switch and look for 12 volts, no voltage then bad switch, when the pto clutch failed on mine, it was very hot and it took at the switch when it went out, so you might have to replace both, but checking with the volt meter will tell you, Hope this helps.

John deere l120 mower deck just quits after 20 min mowing or may work ok for 4 hrs?

The blades only turn when the electric clutch is engaged. Sounds like you may have a short in the wiring possibly at a terminal that is shutting down the clutch. Or it might be in the "reverse button" you have to push to keep the blades turning when you back up. Try holding in on the button when it stops and see if they start back up. I think it's definitely in the wiring somewhere.

JD Model LX178, 1996 Model year. Engine runs but mower deck will not engage? (worked ok yesterday)

It could be a few things:

1. Check the belt that drives the blades; it could be broken or slipping.
2. Make sure the PTO Switch/Lever is working properly. The cable could be broken, or the spring that sometimes help to engage the blade could be broken.
3. There may also be a large stick lodged in the belt that drives the blades.

Good Luck!

Problem with John Deere L120 tractor

Park brake switch is the most likely culprit, any other would cause the tractor to not turn over in the crank position.
