Question about Mackie SWA1501 Subwoofer

1 Answer

Mackie 1501 sub immediatley shuts down after powering up.

I have a Mackie 1501 sub. The last time it was used it refused to power up after a couple of nights at the same venue. The lights come on for a second and then everything shuts down. It was being used as part of drummers monitor system at the time, with a seperate feed running from a kick drum mic so the drummer could "feel" his kick. Do you think it is possible that it was set too loud?Is there other internal fuses that would shut things down to stop more damage?

Hi There, There are 3 internal fuses to check that clip onto the main amp board. You can access them by undoing the two screws that are on the top and the bottom of the sub. They have flat large heads and you will need a hex key to unscrew them. If it is one of the fuses that has gone it will either be discoloured as in burnt or you will see the metal inside has split. Simply replace these with a new fuse and hey presto you should be back up and running. You might also want to check that none of the push on cable ends have dropped off fom the board as this may also stop connection going through. If you need any parts for the sub or fuses then www.LondonSpeakerShop.com will be able to supply them (that is if you're in the UK). Hope this helps. Grant (from www.LondonSpeakerHire.com)

There are many possibilities, the switch, motherboard, electronics etc. If you are a DIY kind of person and you want to try trouble shooting yourself, you need tools. Better still, take it to a service person/ outlet to proper checks.

1501 sub will not power up. i opened, inpected and replaced power fuse 250v 6.3 amps replaced with same fuse and it blew as well immediately. what to do and how. I have some technical experience.

Isolate and look for possible shorted components.

Isolate the main power transformer from the board, and see if the

fuse still blow.

If it doesnt , then the rectifier and capacitors to the regulators.

But don't forget to check for possible shorted transistor

I use a Mackie 1604vlz board. I have Passive EV Speakers that I use a QSC power amp for. I want to add one Powered Subwoofer to this. How can I hook up without buying a crossover? Can I run out frome the...

You can, but I would not suggest it. Depending upon the input design of the powered sub, the highs might not get filtered out. Many subs assume that they are only receiving the lows. You are better off using a crossover between the mixer and the amp for highs and the powered sub for the lows. Please note that the crossover will give you much more control over the sound quality.

MAckie 1604 VLZ Pro Mixer, running QSC 1850 with jbl's from main outs. I would like to hook up powered subwoofers. What is the correct pathway? kenshireman@msn.com

The best way is to use a two-way crossover between the mixer and the amplifiers. In your case, the low output from teh crossover would go to the powered subs, the highs to the QSC. Use the crossover adjustment to set the frequency crossover point to get the sound quality you require.

Volume reduction with same input ( 4 years old),

What are you using to feed the sub? Are you sure that the signal level you are presenting to the sub is the same?

1501 sub smell of electicall burning then no power

Sounds like you may have terminally damaged that unit. As far as the other one being okay I could give a million reasons. A simple one being that maybe your signal was stronger on one channel. Get it checked out at your local repair shop or warranty it out if you can.

Sub will not power.

I reckon there is a good chance you've got a dodgy mains transformer, or perhaps a blown internal fuse. Sounds very much like the problem is on the AC input board.
